Have BMW revised the 108 style wheel?

How did they fit them? Air ratchet?

Those scratches all around the bolt holes are just slack too, you can fit bolts and tighten without all that damage.

If they are brand new wheels I'd think the fitter is slack for damaging them, and if they tightened the bolts up so tight (they are only 100Nm afterall), that you had to get a breaker bar to remove, then they fitted those too tight as well.

My question is, why are you even using these cretins to do work on your car? They are clearly just cowboys :(

If all 4 wheels on my Z4 need replacement, do you think I can choose 18" Double spoke styling 125 instead of another set of 108 Composite wheels?

They look quite nice on Z4, and similar to M Roadster's wheels. Tyres on 108 wheels also fit these wheels.

Did you enquire about these? Is there a costing difference? I think they look great although don't think I prefer them to the 108

Update: BMW UK agreed to replace all 4 108 wheels under warranty for me today. But I did ask the dealer if I could choose other styles instead of another set of 108. They can only replace them with identical ones. I hope I will get the revised wheels. :)

Revised 108's with casting no.8 (better coating for the inner rim).

The casting number is not related to the change of inner face finish. I have a mixture of '8' and '15' between the various earlier style wheels I have around my car and garage.

No. They look no difference to the original ones, but service advisor said the coating used is different to avoid corrosion.

TBH i think the advisor is talking crap about that, it will still happen, just if it's painted it's less likely to show.

Yep. Most of them know very little. I hope the corrosion will not happen again during my ownership. :) I check the condition of the wheels every weekend.
 
My current 06 z4 has had 2 new rears early last year but now one of the new rears is due for change agin this year just under the wrty due to corrosion (had cream inners). Ironically I had perfect rims before the change over, and had new rear tyres at the same time. the next week I scuffed one of the front and one of the new rears, but have laqured the damage and appears to be ok.

I ma changing in the next 2 weeks, and the 08 has the same dreaded wheels, and even on this I have spotted the little tell tale signs on one of the rears as a little insect bite marks. He said its too small to complain at the moment, but I think I will insist on new ones, and the fronts have a very slight nick mark, which will grow over winter to massive corrosion marks, but will be able to get changed under wrty. I really dont wan these wheels, but the do look good, but corrode just looking at them.

I will post some pics, put most of the others to shame. a simple stone chip can grow and spread within 6 months to over 2 inches along the machined rim.
 
I purchased my z4 from Blue Bell in Wilmslow (Authorised dealer) and then took it to Cooper Cobham 18 months on to have the corrosion on my 108's looked at. I was told by the area service manager that it wouldn't be covered under warranty as they have been refubished since they left the factory (i have not had them refurbed, but Blue Bell have said that they had the front left refurbed by their own guy before I picked up the car with 1800 miles on the clock...)

I'm still stuck with my corroding 108's - and my car will be 3 years old next March. Is this worth me taking further? (sorry bit of a tangent I know, but the thread just re ignited my anger over teh issue...)

As some will be aware I had all my 108 alloys replaced under warranty recently. They do not appear any different to the originals I had on a Dec 2006 car other than the lacquer appears thicker.

If only one wheel has been furbished then at leat the other three would be covered.

Probably to late for the refurbed one after 18 months though.
 
It seems that BMW are no longer using the painted inner rim... they are now laquering only (retaining the original silver look):

Sorry I dont agree with this as far as I am aware they have always been clear lacquered from the start with later wheels being painted a cream colour although other included myself have had clear one supplied as replacements (same as originals)

I dont think they have ever just been supplied unprotected as to much cleaning protection would have to be carried out which the average owner could not be expected to carry out.
 
This is exactly what I thought but he said that on my old wheels (which were clear), you could feel the grooves in the metal and that on the new clear lacquered ones you can't (but you can see them)....

I will get to the bottom of this!
 
What they are doing now IIRC is applying a thicker coat of clear lacquer which of course makes it harder to feel the turned inner face.
