Have BMW revised the 108 style wheel?

I have just been my local dealer. They said a guy from BMW GB will come to inspect all warranty claims early next month. I have my car booked in for inspection. Is it the formal procedure, srhutch?

All my 4 wheels have "8" on the wheel.

Yes that is the normal procedure although my dealer sent some pictures off, which BMW then OK'd so dealer will change wheesl and then get them inspected afterwards.

Let me just chuck in my 2p worth of knowledge on the wheels as I had some problems and my friendly parts guy dug to the bottom of the problem and indeed ordered several wheels before what we needed arrived:

BMW started to bring online a revised inner finish on the 108's about 6 months ago. At that time when I needed to source a replacement the German warehouse had almost exactly equal number (75) of each style. They carry no different part number and it seems it was pot luck what was sent out. I assume by now they will only have the new finish left.

The mark on the casting is not related and is likely to be a random 8 or 15 Parts tell me it means nothing to BMW, perhaps does to BBS casters.

The originals had a diamond cut finish and they are unmistakable (some are posted above in this thread) The replacements have what I desribed as a powder coat cream finish. It could be plastic or paint? - I got rid of mine back to the dealer ASAP for changing to old style.

Will it stop corrosion - On the inner yes it 's going to surpress it, on the outer - no difference. Does it look as good? No, but not as obvious as you might think until you look through the rim.

My local dealer will not get me new wheels until the corroded wheels are inspected and approved for replacement by BMW GB. :(

CJ as stated above the wheels BMW are going to fit to my car are the original turned and lacquered wheels which for me is great new because they look better.

This is why I started the post as I would have thought by now these would be thorugh the system and using the new style, but this appears not to be the case.

ksher if all yours are like that it shouldnt be a problem, how old is your car? build and reg date.

Built in July 2006; registered in September 2006. This is why I try to sort it out before New Car Warranty expires this year.

Must have been longer than 6 months ago, as the ones on my car had the same finish and I bought that in Dec 2006 :?

Just had my two fronts off as dealer said one was OK, to say I am annoyed is an under statement at present. The wheels were fairly clean they obviously didnt bother to clean or even wipe round. The first one removed had corrosion which could be seen straight away the second upon first insepction looked fine, but after a very quick clean corrosion is clearly visible.

Not only am I annoyed about that but also every wheel now has damaged bolt holes very slight scrapes, now I'm guessing the tech didnt worry as he thought they were all going to be replaced but as they couldnt check them until they have been removed seems a very blasé attitude.

I will post pics later of the bolt hole, in case I need bring back down to earth. :headbang:

I was referring to replacements rather than OEM fit and my info is no better or worse than the Parts Guy who was in contact with the German warehouse, so dates could be way wrong of cuorse.

Who knows if they plan to keep the original style too or each tim e awarranty wheel comes in send a customer out with an odd set??

I made a claim on my 108's last week. They are replacing them with the M performance (101s) for free.
If all 4 wheels on my Z4 need replacement, do you think I can choose 18" Double spoke styling 125 instead of another set of 108 Composite wheels?

They look quite nice on Z4, and similar to M Roadster's wheels. Tyres on 108 wheels also fit these wheels.

I believe other have done this, I must admit I forgot about that option so didnt ask.

First things first, this is the corrosion the couldnt find

Am I going over the top with the damage on these wheels, I know they are going so it's not a problem, but should I still point it out to the dealer.

And if they did this to the new set would you refuse to accept?

gotta say the damage/corrosion whatever you want to call it, that is shown in the bolt holes is entirely caused from a wheel brace..... :)

Marks near the bolts? Regarding the first picture, although the corrosion is now very minor, it will get worse later. You should of course tell the dealer. I told my local dealer this morning that all 4 wheels have corrosion. The guy from BMW UK should inspect all 4 wheels and hope I can get a set of new 125 for free (they are actually cheaper than 108). :)

once they see this I have no doubt they will change it, but they didnt clean the wheel (it wasnt that dirty) so missed it, just lazy.

It would appear the tyre fitter didnt like the fact I complaied about his work, why do I say this because I cant get the bloody wheels off.

I have spider brace which is normally fine but cannot get any leverage. So I thought I would use my torque wrench, and wound it up to 110 ft lbs with a 17mm socket (which I use to tighten to 74 ft lbs), and the socket broke before there was any sign of movement.

I used the wheel brace that came with my wifes Astra which is very similar to what was supplied on the E46, but unless I was going to stand on it I could not budge.

My intension is to take it back to the dealer and kick up a fuss again, it there problem not mine, do you agree?

Calmed down a bit now and spoke to the voice of reason (wife) so went and bought a extendable wheel wrench. Job done

Still plan to complain to Service Manager as had I done it this morning, I would have driven straight down there and got them to fix.

Should I request new wheel bolts though?

Did you enquire about these? Is there a costing difference? I think they look great although don't think I prefer them to the 108
