Have BMW revised the 108 style wheel?

I have had all 4 replaced but the new ones said that thing about the lacquer on the box - not painted and I thought it was odd, so I queried it.

they were clear - but the dealer said that he checked them and they have no laquer. TBH I never checked - his words:

"The new rims were turned metal with a "clear" lacquer over the top, I have just checked your original wheels and the inner wheel
is milled/turned metal with no lacquer over the top (you can feel the grooves in the metal). The casting numbers that are
mentioned in the thread mean nothing to us, it could mean something to the manufacturer i.e.. Which cast mould they used so they
can follow an audit trail if there was a problem with a particular batch of castings? The two old rims off your car I have just
checked have number eight on them. I have another set of rims off the other car I told you about, they are milled with no lacquer
but have number 15 on them, so the number on the front of the wheel doesn't have any bearing on lacquered/non-lacquered."

NO lacquer?

They would be dull grey within a few weeks.

You can feel the diamond cut grooves on good 108's through the lacquer on the inner of the wheel. The lacquer would have to be half a mm thick, if not more, to mask the topography of the grooves!

Heres my take on this. I had all four 108's replaced in June this year. I posted then and agree with Eyup that the replacments I got have a thicker clear lacquer on the inner but not painted. On my old rims you could feel the turned groves, so there is definatley a difference. Whether this will cure the problem remains to be seen, I for one am scepticle, time will tell.

Are yours okay?

Mine SEEM to have something going on with the rear wheels although can't be sure. Take a look - what do you think?

As soon as I got mine changed I took them off and gave them a good polish and sealant treatment. So far all ok. I will check again but I must say, dont recall seeing marks that your pics show, however this could be just down to the milling, IMHO nothing to worry about. If you are not sure, return to the Dealer for their opinion, just in case it is a more serious problem. At least its on record you reported it which should help in furture replacement claim.

I have some similar marks.. but fewer in number. My 108s are only 4 months old... not sure if significant.

Look like small scratches...

Yep exactly - like small scratches or lice! Have yours been there since they were fitted or have you noticed them developing. Damn this wheel.... Looks great, but.....
