Hi,

I'm just wondering if anyone has gone from the E85M to the E89 35Sdrive? Just wanted to know if anyone has done any compaarisions on the two :driving: .

Many thanks,

I test drove one only and to be honest, you will forever regret it. It is nowhere near as involved as the M is.

If you are happy to go from a sportscar to a cruiser, then it might be for you.

Was just curious but as much as I love the M my partner is less amoured, and it's her daily driver (her commute is only a few miles and not to the badlands).

Odd as she had a Z3 which was way crashier on ride and had zero handling (few times I drove it, it scared me). No intention of moving to a cruiser, still getting my head around why the Sport button is there :)

Plenty enough throttle response for me :driving:

Wouldn’t even think if it, no matter how many M bits & badges they stick on one. I would have if they made a proper Z4M, but after the snub over my broken springs (days out of warrantee) I won’t be buying any BMW after this one ever again.

No i wouldnt move to the new z4, its a very different car.......

i am however waiting for the GTS m3 to come down slightly and ill snap one up...... then send it straight to Simpson for the ess VT-650 s/c kit.

tested the new z4 35is and 23i during the vines Z day at Beaulieu last year and have to say, although the build quality, ride, torque (in the 35si) is superior, it is really a cruiser rather than sports car. The engine lacks charisma and despite the light steering, it never really hides the weight of the car especially in the twisties. Most importantly, it doesn't have the sense of occasion when you start the engine like the naturally aspirated straight 6 in our Z4MR.

That's a shame, and a bit like having a bad experience with a woman and vowing to never touch one again :).
Overall the Z4 M is a pretty solid car but the rear springs do seem to be a bit naff. However with the crap roads we have combined with hard suspension, that doesn't help either. Apparently among the U.S folks this problem isn't so common, better roads?.
Just about to have my car MOT'd and certain it has a second broken spring. This one has covered some 57000 miles now which isn't bad really, the other rear spring was replaced last year. Small price to pay for the FUN and enjoyment the car provides.

I trash mine hard enough and it is good built quality mechanically. Shame a nasty dealer put you off a brand experience...

There is a pont to the new Z4 though. My girlfriend hates mine and refuses to get into it (hard seats, crashy ride, poor visibility, bad driver blablabla). She did like the new one (but then again this the golf is the best car in the world

X3... Had a bit of a race - z4mr against 3.5 - about 8kms through twisty but good mountain roads including a few hairpins - extreme fun - it's a very close thing - traded the lead twice, both times on braking into corners - if you have skills in keeping the revs up through corners the m just clips it - though the eibach coils in the m could have made the difference... some rubber I'll never see again.

I watched Jason Plato run the new 35i against a 370Z and the Nissan was quicker around the track and according to Mr Plato a much more involving car to drive. I'd agree with that 100%. Nothing wrong with the E89 but not as involving especially against the 'M'. more a GT, great looking car though!

The E89 is missing something. It's not special, not an occasion when you drive it. Great if you want a soft gentle car but a long way short of the pleasure you get from a Z4M.
