Harley Davidson?

It will probably come to nothing, but over the last few weeks I have seriously fallen in love with the idea of getting a Harley :sweetheart:

Not interested in performance TBH, just something that looks and sounds wicked. Does anyone who knows about bikes have any ideas of this - it's a Harley 883 Iron?

 I _really_ don't like Harley Davidsons... they sound nice, but other than that...

If you wan't something that has the sound, looks and handling... buy a Ducati.

If you wan't the Harley engine, better handling and Ducati-esque looks, buy a Buell.

Yamaha MT-01 is a good substitute as I have one. Better handling and reliability, but I know what you mean about a Harley. Something about them! They are expensive for what you get though as they play on the name!

Try and get some test rides from your local dealer, they are usually fairly accommodating. The 883 is the smallest of the Harleys, both engine size and physically, which may or may not be an advantage. I've owned a selection of big engined Honda's and BMWs and finally was tempted into the Harley fold last September. I've got a Dyna Superglide Custom with about 3 acres of chrome on it and I think it's great. The 1600cc engine is just right for the A&B roads around the Yorkshire Dales & Lakes.

Mike,
You need to get this mid life crisis sorted out in your mind...lol

This clip always comes to mind, so as said, take a test ride:

I actually saw that same exact situation happen like that a few years ago....

I hear you Mike. That Harley looks sweet. I've had a couple of Ducatis but gave up riding a few years ago when my wife told me to! A good friend of mine here in Glasgow owns West Coast Harley so if you are seriously considering it, i can see what deal he can do for you. I say do it, Harleys are lovely generally and although the hardcore biker brigade don't like them, they're plenty fast in real life where a 0-60 of 3 seconds on 2 wheels is just stupid.

You need to get your priorities sorted!! :poke: :o :P

Sorry Harley's just don't do it for me, apologies to our friends the other side of the pond but in standard form they don't go, don't stop and don't go round corners, most are ridden by poser's or Fat B'stard's with stupid beard's :poke: , if you don't want a Jap bike try a Triumph Speed Triple
SpeedTriple-1.jpg
or even a Bonnie of some description.

Love that bike Mike - very stealth.

Have said I'm going to treat myself to a Harley for my 40th - its been my goal since I was about 25. 2 years to go... :(

Although I'm an old mod at heart and only got rid of my Vespa in November - and miss it like mad.

That nearly happened to me when I picked up my first Vespa PX.

I'd NEVER ridden a geared bike before. Picked it up from Phoenix Heinz in Oldham, let go of the clutch - bang, up in the air, virtually 90 degrees, somehow managed to bring it down and pull up safely further down the road. Took me 10 mins to calm down.

I was very lucky as there was a lot of traffic - and I either looked very very cool or like a complete and utter feckin eejit. I believe it was the latter.

The Highway Patrol here in NC switched from Harley to BMW a few years back. The BMWs were cheaper to buy and maintain. :o

:o nobody rooted for a BMW motorcycle? :o

Ok, how about this, Inline 4 cylinder 1000cc, 14000RPM Redline, 180BHP, 175 Kilo's approx

If they can do this with a bike engine, where is the 3.0 Zed with 540BHP :D

I've always liked the BMW HP2 Sport.

All nice bikes. I agree with Wondermike. If you want a nice looking bike with a big sound to cruise around on, the harleys are the way to go. The sport bikes serve another purpose. I reaqlly don't undersatand how they're being compared with the Harley though. It's like comparing a Z4 to a minivan.

BMW bikes are nice, but, like Rabman5 said, apples and oranges. Harley, Victory, Buell and a few of the Japanese "knockoffs" of Harleys are in a class of their own (not saying they're better, but they're in the same "class").
