That machined indent on the edge of the disc is definitely factory balancing. To be honest with you although there is a fair bit of metal left in them I don't think those discs look in particularly brilliant condition
I'd fit some new discs and pads and bet it makes a world of difference ! I fitted new Brembo discs and pads all round on mine a few weeks ago as I was having all sorts of issues with the MTEC/Red Stuff combo I was running. Now the Brembos have bedded in the difference is night and day....much, much better !

What was wrong with your Mtec/Redstuff combo if you don’t mind me asking.

Red Stuff pads are superb but they just completely overwhelmed the Mtec discs and put that much heat into them the NSF and OSR warped. Had them skimmed on the car and a new set of pads and same again ! Had this combo on 2 previous but different cars and the same happened. Once bitten twice shy so maybe I should've known better than to try them on the Zed. I have my doubts that this would have happened with a better quality disc like the Brembos.

Cheers for the heads up, I was initially going to go for the Brembo’s but noticed that only the fronts were drilled/slotted :?

Is there anywhere I can get these cheaper?

Just go for pagid from ECP, you may also get away with not changing them

Also another for PF pads, i have these on my M3 and am over the moon with them. On my Z4 i had red stuff pads and blank coated bream disc's which were good too. PF are another level though IMO.

I certainly was.

Both Kevin and Lee know their stuff and their labour rates are quite a bit less than other garages.

I would definitely consider using them for future jobs.

Tbh, the service that I received at BMS and Munich Legends was more or less the same. There are however 3 differences between the garages:

1. Munich Legends’ labour costs are higher than BMS’
2. Munich Legends offer a courtesy car, whereas BMS don’t.
3. BMS only work on weekdays (which means I have to take a day off work to get stuff done to the car), whereas ML work also work on Saturdays.

It would have been handy if BMS did offer a courtesy car service as I dropped my car off at 9am and was told to collect it at 4pm. There’s not much to do in Leatherhead so my friend and I ended up getting a train to London for the day.

Apparently BMS used to offer a courtesy car service but due to customers damaging cars, putting their dogs in them and smoking in them etc, they stopped.

Nevertheless I haven’t any issues with either and both are reputable and trustworthy garages IMO.

Okay so the brakes are on, but haven’t been bedded in just yet.

Looking to do a couple 100 miles before I follow EBC’s bed-in procedure, after which I will test to see whether this has solved the problem.

I think I am due a caliper refurb also... :?

Brakes are bedded in and the issue has gone away!

Next mods will be dampers + springs, bushes and a Quaife.

Just got in my car and noticed that the bite of the EBC Redstuff pads when cold aren’t as good as stock.

Perhaps this is because of their ceramic compound?

Brakes designed for heavier use never bite as well from cold as standard brakes. It’s one of the trade offs

Glad you sorted the braking issue though with the new disks and pads before rebuilding half the car

I ran red stuff on my Z4 (fronts only) and once warm they are great pads.

Most Performance pads are not as good as OEM when cold but a few presses on the pedal whilst driving slowish to warm the engine up and then they work perfectly.

My PF pads on the M£ are the same, nothing to worry about

I’ve had no issues with the Redstuff pads. I’d say the braking/stopping power is the same as stock however the Redstufff last a lot longer (less susceptibile to fade).

Minor issues: I’ve noticed that I have to notch my handbrake a little bit higher for it to bite and sometimes the offside front disc makes a squeaking noise. Not too fussed or concerned about this as apparently new discs can squeak until they are fully bedded in.

Which pads did you go for in the end?
