Handling

I was wondering on your impressions of the Z4's handling. I have had mine since September and I was relatively impressed with the handling, but severely unimpressed with the tramlining on the stock tyres.

I then had the flat tyre light come on, yes checked the pressures and they were fine... even so it knocked my confidence and I started to imagine bad handling.

I decided on the back of this to fit non-run flat Goodyear Eagle F1's hoping for more confidence and better ride... I didn't get it... they seemed twitchy even after a few days hard driving.

However, after a month or so they seem to have finally bedded in (I don;t do a lot of miles on average) and I have got my confidence back in them... I'm loving the ride now, the balance seems pretty good and I'm well happy!

What do you all think?

The F1's require about a 500 mile break in period. I began to notice a big improvement around the 350 mile mark.

On my previous Z (non-M 😉 ) , I put the P Zero Nero on them and drove to Switzerland with them. The grip on the mountain roads was fantastic. Whilst before with the run flats in the mountains, I was never sure when I would lose grip - they sort of started bouncing around before losing it.

With the non-run flats, they became predictable again and breaking out of corners became controllable

Yeah... no looking back here either!... Best thing I did! (remote roof module a close second!) 😉 :D

ah yes, the module. Had mine in there for a month before I sold it ... should not have bothered fitting it really, as now I miss the features ..

Unless I rip the wheel hard over pretty fast my RunFlats are doing great holding the road and are very predictable. I slide around a little but that's just cause I like pushing them to their limit. I'm very comfortable drifting around corners now with the traction control off. I guess I'm just used to the tramlining, it bothered me quite a bit at first but seems to have either dampened out after the 4000 miles I've ripped on them or I am just so familiar with the roads I drive that I know how to navigate around the areas that cause the tramlining.

I'm still planning on replacing the RunFlats with F1s as soon as they wear out. A friend from the 4um here let me drive his with the F1s on it and it was AMAZING!

Why did you sell it? :?

The car? Was tempted . I found the M too expensive, but when I spoke to the dealer and I mentioned 15% - we got talking and settled just over 13% in the end

I am used to my tramlining Z. I only have a couple or so thousand miles left on them and thought I was reasonably sure I wanted to stick w/rf's, but now I'm not so sure. I have been contemplating ugrading to an M. I don't know that I can afford it right now though, but I've been petting the idea lately. Don't know if I want to spend boo-coo's of money on new wheels and fancy tires if I'm just going to up-grade.
Who knows...

fire-n-ice, have you test drove an //M yet? I'm scared to. My 2.5i is plenty enough power for me. Any more and I would just get myself into trouble. Although it would have been nice when that cutie pie the other night on the highway in the Infiniti was playing with me. She squaked her tires next to me at 65mph and took off. Of course she looked over at me and smiled in a very playful way before doing that and so I had to chase her down. The 2.5i isn't as fast as I would like above 90mph. We had a blast chasing each other around through traffic that evening for a few miles. I wish she would have followed me when I exited so we could have at least had a short chat over a cup o' decaf after that thrill. Guess she was just a tease. Anyway, back to the //M. I know it is an incredible car, but you've gotta ask yourself if it's worth the extra dough. I don't know, maybe I should test drive one and find out... 8)

Hmmm... You'll get yourself into trouble yet...

Yea, I suppose one of these days one of them state boys is gonna be in the wrong place at the wrong time and I'll end up paying for it (LOL).

OR are you talking about the girl? 8)

Yea, I test-drove one at the Macon, GA stealership a bit ago. They are hot! I'm one who has to cap myself though, I love speed and general thrills that give you adrenaline dumps, including roller-coasters. If I had more time to to go to Six Flags, I probably would be satisfied more often.

You're right though, it is a lot of money. I will not do it if it will be a financial burden, I like my monetary freedom. You know, to go out and have a few ICB's with friends. It is fun flirting with people on the road. It's too bad for her though, she missed out 😉 ! They're sort of stuck-up here though, I don't put a lot of emphasis on looks, I'm just freindly and like to wave to everyone.

SIX FLAGS??? My Favorite!!!! Guess which one is me.

^^^yes but the first two don't count!!!

Woooopeeeee!!!!! That'd be me, right there next to ya!!! I hate it when they stop. Best time to go is in the Fall, right after the brats are back in school and it's not 100 degrees outside. Wow, I'm getting excited!

You wouldn't be asking that after a test drive. :D Do yourself a favour... don't test drive one because once you do, you'll find yourself signing on a dotted line somewhere (I did).
