Half way through...and then there was silence

More of a moan than anything else.

Blue skies this morning...roof down day for the drive to work :driving:

Park up. Handbrake on, into neutral, and press the roof up button.

At this point, we all know that we are supposed to have some noise and the roof closes. Well we had some noise and the roof labours to get to the halfway point and then silence. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Bugger all...well, not strictly true. We have a little red flashing light on the dashboard to tell me there is a fault. Now you have to give BMW there due and they think of everything. I mean, the average motorist might miss the fact that their roof is stuck in the half up/half down position but BMW very kindly put a little tiny flashing light to tell us.

TBH - don't know if the motors have ever been replaced. I know that they drain holes are ok as I've seen water collecting just in front of the back wheels when it's rained.

Like I say...more of a moan than anything as I've resigned myself to getting the motor replaced (the cars a 2003 model with 110k on the clock).

Looking on the bright side though - it's a fix that can wait a while as summer is now officially over

Bummer Jake. But thankgoodness for that little flashing light!!

I'm very new here (picking up my zed 2moror). So you can manually lower the roof in an emergency then?!?

((I have done some 'searching', but there is a lot to plough thru on some results))

you CAN manually raise and lower it, but you end up with muscles like the Hulk.
After helping Siftah raise and lower his on sunday, I felt no need to visit the gym

Just been out to check the roof during lunch.

The catches still work but the roof doesn't move. It can be pushed back about 1/4 of the way and then stops with a lot of resistance.

When I closed it, I didn't follow the handbook regarding pulling the red lever in the boot etc as I was more concerned about closing the roof than anything else.

What exactly does the red lever in the boot do?

Releases the hydraulics to allow you to manually take it up/down (and not turn into the hulk :P )

That's what I thought. Gave it a pull and it didn't move and was giving some resistance. Will wait until I get home before I have another look. Perhaps I need to put the roof back as it was to release the pressure.

So I'm back at home tugging on the red thingy in the boot and it's doing the square root of bugger all. Won't move and I don't want to give it too much in case it breaks in my hand.

Suggestions?

bump.

I've not got a clue Jake.....but would very much like to hear that you've got it sorted.....! Its just the kind of 'glitch' that I dread.
