Had a little accident last night :(

Was driving down a single carriageway, and in a blind bend i see a car over taking a lorry, coming head on, flashing his full beams for me to slow/ move.... I slam the brakes, and swerve to the side, miss the car, but hear a god almighty crash :(

As it was a country lane, i couldnt stop there so limp on, but hear a rotational noise, like something rubbing the wheel. (turned out to be the wheel well plastics)

Stop when i can, and my passenger side fang is split, bent under the brake duct, there was some plastic from underneith hanging with a wire, i nearly cut the wire as i couldnt disconnect it, lucky i didnt..... As after i disconnected it my car says -40 outside, so guess its the outdoor temp sensor... And all the wheel well plastic which attach to the bumper are split.

The under plastics are there, just the bit between the front passenger wheel an the front fang are all gone. And the bumper is noticeable wobbly/ bendy now. No wheel damage luckily. It think the lower front must have hit a rock maybe a Low curb even.

So annoyed, the driver obviously didnt stop.

No chance for pics yet... Think/ hope the bumper is salvageable with some plastic weld and a respray... It was only sprayed fitted 6 months ago.

And will need new plastics around the passenger wheel, between the wheel and bumper which incl the outdoor sensor :( and new bumper clips, and plastic rivets which secure the wheel guard.

Temped to just claim on my insurance to save the hassle :(

I hate it when some arsehole's idiotic driving causes an accident that's not your fault and you end up paying for it. Hopefully the wallet damage won't be too bad

Sounds awful mate. Hope you get it sorted soon and easily/cheaply. At least nobody got hurt and am sure karma will sort the overtaking truck person out soon enough,

 If you've got protected NCB it may be worth doing.
I was thinking the same thing, a few years back I went down the non-insurance route, wish I hadn't bothered.

If you go through insurance, the bodyshop probably won't want to repair your bumper but just bolt on a new one, so you might end up with a standard one, unless you can do a deal with them. Just something to consider maybe.

insurance imo..... this is why we have it imo!!! forget the hasstle and let them deal with it. Sorry about your incident, it would have really got me rather annoyed and sad feeling.

At least you are here to talk about it,a pig when not your fault but not to much to repair, and your pride and joy is not to bad. :(

^^^this aquazi...

What a fecker, but at least you are fine as that sounds like it could have been a lot worse. Chin up

Thanks guys...could have been worse i could have ended in a ditch.... I am not as bothered as i thought i would be... Its only a car after all. Did make me wish i had a more versatile car though... One that is higher up, with a bit more power.... A 335d sprang to mind

patched it up as well as i could... My insurance excess is £150 plus voluntary and i have ncp guess it will be more to fix( as long as they do give me a new M bumper  ) and as its due for renewal in jan so only a month without protection!

I have removed and reclipped the wheel splash guard, even though the holes were all were split its seems to work..

I have no jack to check the underside as i am down in london... But seems ok from what i can tell, these are the bits from the bottom that i salvaged

And what i see looking up this new hole... Guessing its the horn and the hose for the headlight washers

Here what it looks like now... Not too bad, unless you look close!

The paint in surrounding area has spider lines... Crasing... Guess the bumper flexed as a result.

My metal fin guards are all bent out of shape... Straighted best i could with a mallet!

Taped up the temp sensor wire... Its cold today, but not -40

Checked ebay... They have a os front wheel plastic, with brake duct... Off and M, but no NS front for any model but as it driveable there is no immediate rush to fix it yet.

Definitely looks fixable - at least the fang is still there and not lost in hedge where it happened. I am sure the air duct is not as expensive as you'd expect - I'd get the part number from realoem and check with a dealer. I needed one for mine and I am sure it was only £20 or £30. Bumper and undertray off to fit, but your paint guy could do that for you probably.

Yeah in day light doesnt looks as bad as i feared... When i first saw it the fang had bent back inside! Pulled it out and no chunks missing even so a plastic weld and respray should fix it.... Thats prob going to be £200-250 based on the initial charge to spray it earlier in the year.

Its only a single piece thats missing on the underside, so that and the splash guard going to be another £100 will try soper on monday to see if that comes down... So all in all £350 of damage is pretty minor!

Also noticed on my drive after i was so concerned about bits blowing off my car i drove 50mph down to london on the m40... Pushed my average to 38mpg!!!
