Had a bit of an accident...

So to cut a long story short, the wife t-boned the ZMC last night on the driveway. Nothing high speed, just reversed into it without realising it was there. Has pushed the pax wing in a bit and the pax door no longer lines up or opens/closes properly.

It's def going to be a new wing and door as both are also well dented, so is def going to be an insurance job.

Question is can I go through BMW accident management? I want it to be repaired properly and certainly not by joe public approved by LV who the wife is insured with!

Any help/advice appreciated.

Sorry to hear that.

When I was rear ended in my E85 a few years back I insisted on my car being repaired at a Main Dealer.
Insurance company, can't remember which one,OK'd it but wouldn't let me have a loan car whilst being repaired.

I'm with Direct line at the moment and can have my car repaired at garage of choice, although wouldn't get 5 years warranty on repairs that I would get at one of their preferred repairers.

I would avoid accident management companies if possible. They should allow but as Jimbo has said will probably apply some restrictions.

Ok thanks for the advice, it's def going through main dealer, had previous bad experience with non dealer insurance jobs.

Will give BMW a call and see their advice I reckon.

Lol to be fair when she told me I thought someone had died, absolute inconsolable fits of tears! On the bright side it needed a detail anyway so will use this as the opportune moment.

And remind her that March 14th is just 'round the corner. :D

AFAIK you can have it repaired where you like, and there's even less of an excuse when it comes to going to a dealer, they may just take away some of the perks like loan car.

Take all your personnel stuff out of the car when it goes in Simonlpearce, I had 2 amps and the head unit nicked from a car I had in, I think it was one of the scrotes who washes and moves them rang his mate and told him they we're there and he came down and helped himself, had a pita job getting them re-placed. This was'nt at a main dealer admittedly but you never know.

Here's a couple of pics of the damage. Went to Sytner Solihull and they quoted £3400 for new bits and paint. At that price it most def would be an insurance jobbie!...

Still going to check with a bodyshop for a 2nd opinion though.

Ouch ! Sorry .... Looks awful ! Hope the wife is suitably humbled by her actions ( my wife is a red head and would have blamed me for parking it in the wrong place !!!!!!)

I like you would chose a main dealer repair BUT ! Be aware !!!! My best pal drove his 5 series into the gate post 8 weeks ago wife was making tea so he couldn't pin anything on her !! Completely his fault ! Damage was to the back passenger nearside door, rear wheel arch and alloy wheel was scuffed ! Insurance agreed and the car went into Williams BMW stockport they repaired the car but when he went to collect it......... The rear alloy was a completely different colour to the other three, the bonnet was scratched from the Middle to the nearside top by the windscreen and the nearside front wing was damaged !!!! The car was also filthy inside and out ( my pal has massive OCD like me and never ever has a dirty car ) he complained and thankfully they had photographed the car on arrival so it was obvious they had made a complete bollox of the whole thing ! They have now had the car six weeks and he still is waiting for the repairs to be completed ?

Maybe his is an isolated case but never the less make sure you take pictures before you leave the car with them !

Update :- they have today said they cannot gaurantee the colour will match on the alloy wheels ? And looks like they will have to spray the whole front of the car to get the bonnet to match after the repair !!!!!

Messy accident :( My Mrs did something similar and reversed a former car of ours into another in a car park. Cost me a shed load.

Personally I'd never use BMW themselves to repair an accident. They service cars and do mechanicals not really bodywork.
Although there are some dubious quality specialists around, in general all they do all day long is repair cars, spray them align panels, etc.

Near to me in Cannock is one that just repairs high end cars. They by chance did me a Hunter alignment and the shop was full of Porsche, big Mercs. an Aston, etc. That's the sort of place that would get my work if required on the simple basis that if it's good enough for £50k+ cars it certainly is on a £5-£10k Zed

Chartwells in Derby have a very good reputation.

I've not had any problems with my BMW bodyshop repair from years ago - and as the bodyshop was in a separate building and run by different staff you'd think they'd have plenty of bodyshop experience.

However, the only reason I went to BMW over Chartwells was that the BMW bodyshop was much closer and the repair wouldn't affect the paint/bodywork warranty - which was lucky as I had the boot corrosion issue a while later.
