GUTTED! *AGAIN*

Well after finally deciding to go with the black 35i in chester, I drove over from Manchester today to look at it. Absolutely stunning in black sapphire and white design interior. Overflowing with toys, I was in heaven.

Organised the test drive, started it up to a burbling roar, (at this point a tiny little bit of wee came out in excitement!) roof down, sun out, i pulled away to a lovely burble and boom from the rear, DCT is utterly fab, so smooth. HiFi on (and I have to say the stock unit sounds fab so Ive no idea why people complain, unless its upgraded and the dealer doesnt know lol).. so we burble out onto a clear road, I pop it in SPORT and floor it. DCT goes up up up in revs and then THUD, engine failure light and the car misfires like a bomb going off, I idle into a fuel station where it promptly stalls. The BMW guy is red with embarrassment, my heart is in my boots, the excitement being replaced with disappointment.

After two attempts to start it, it gets going with half the cyls and misfires all the way back, then all is normal as I pull finally in the the dealership. Another guy takes it out and before he gets to the end of the road, pop pop limps back again.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH.... I'm now back home, excited as I know now what I want... but super miserable while I wait to hear from them on what went wrong...

Its not bought yet, so Ill look elsewhere now, unless its something simple, that they solve AND then discount the car further!!

Maniac, Very frustrating but after that experience I would not but that car :!:

People said that N54 engines have few problems, e.g. fuel pumps replaced several times, software upgrade to hide problem (source from Autoexpress). N/A engines with no supercharger/turbocharger are far more reliable.

Most if not all of the issues I read about this engine seem to be about the HPFP.

If they tell me its that, and its replaced, I'll still consider the car, it was fab. I'd rather have one knowing its been replaced and sorted, than another and wonder when that might suffer the same fate!

For now, I'll have to wait for another to come up in retail... SO wanted this before xmas.. :(

Maniac, I tend to agree with you if it is the HPFP and at least it should help the bartering

Maniac, I agree with MikeS here, it's highly unlikely to be anything terminal and sounds like the HPFP went, or maybe a sensor of some description. The fact that it happened when you tested it should help get them down further.

I drove past the white one yesterday, all alone in the showroom, just longing for someone to buy it :D

I do like the white one and it's super well specced, and they dropped the price a fair bit, but Im sold on the pure white interior and that adaptive suspension big time! I still have an eye on the white one tho lol...

I go with the flow....you'll have a mended car but can say its put you off big time....at this time of year they aren't going to let you just walk.... oh and don't forget an additionally extended warranty in the 'extras' now....

Maniac, the design interior is the best - one of the nicest interiors I have had on any car - you have to get it! It looks great with the black, but as you can see I got white/white - which I love and in the 35i, it's just perfect. The 19's are a bit scary over potholes, but thats about it.

I still think white looks amazing, and only saw my first ever other white one the other day - clean, it looks gorgoeous. I used to have a silver Audi, and then I ached for a black one, and something about black which although looks good, it's harder to define the lines of a car with, and can make a car look smaller, if thats possible. I like the long snout on my car, and just wonder if it's as long or perceived to be, in black.

Must get a stubby aerial for it though!!! Only mod I have done - and the wind deflector is a waste of space!

Agree with the choice of colour. It took me whole weekend to confirm the colour. I was thinking about Black Sapphire and Deep Sea Blue, and also Alpine White, but finally Space Grey. The M Sport front bumper will stand out better on light colour cars.

Yeah I had similar qualms abkut the black sapphire but when i saw it i loved it. It's a have to see it colour really. Doesn't look small at all and the shine because it's black just looks better...

Grey is the perfect colour for the Z, especially in the Coupe. Shows the curves really well. My second choice colour would be Space Grey and then Havannah

Heard back from the dealership, they're saying it was an engine management issue, software being updated to fix it. No detail on what that meant.

They're not budging on the price I originally negotiated, and fair enough, its not a bad price for an AUC esp when most 30i models are close to that price point. I've not seen anything else I like, and the finance rates etc have been screwed lower than most banks will offer me.

So it looks like I'm going for it... never spent so much on a car... gulp... lets hope to god once the deal is done that it doesn't do another wobbler on the way home!

(Oh, I did get a full tank of fuel out of them, not much, but hey at 20mpg its a help lol)

Driving home from the dealer last week, I managed >32 mpg... messing with it on the way to work I got ~20 :D

Hope you make it home with a big smile on your face!
