GROUP BUY: ** Carbon Fiber & Fiberglass Side Skirt Extensions ** - ENDED 23/09/17

Ok I've done a test fit with some 3M tape, no screws in as yet so it's not sitting completely flush and I only had enough tape for one side. I thought I'd share what I have so far just to give an impression of how it will look when it's done properly.

I used rockstar93's post as a guide with regards to placement as I believe he got that spot on.

I agree also that the rear end doesn't need any trimming of sorts, although rather than being a little too short as rockstar93 described, mine was ever so slightly too long so I shaved a little off the front end to allow it to fit flush. I guess I was lucky in this regard as it's better to be too long and adaptable than to be too short and not have as much room for manoeuvre.

As far as length I think it's as near as damn it. The rear flap that has the potential to be awkward is already broken on my car so for this test fit it wasn't a problem. The other side will need some altering as the rubber flap is indeed in the way.

So just a few pics on placement.

And a few shots of the car with them fitted. The car will look a lot better once I put the sport springs on the rear and lose that wheel gap as opposed to the wrong ones that have been fitted already, and when I get my carbon mirrors back.

I've just ordered a couple of different edge protectors off eBay and going to see which looks best. I did email APR direct and they offered the APR edge protector but it was like $17 for the part, and $30 for postage so I wasn't about to pay nearly $50 for something I can get off Ebay for under a fiver lol. Will update with the quality and how well it fits from both the parts when they arrive and post the Ebay link (it would be worth you ordering some, ready for when/if the splitter or skirts get caught)

What thickness 3M tape did you use? Looks about 25mm or 30mm?

Also for the splitter, did you use any spacers for i between the fangs? That's something I'm still trying to source?! (Again, APR wanted $53 for the accessory pack so I'm trying to find it elsewhere?!)

Thanks for the heads up! Definitely interested in your update on which Ebay edging works - though I'm significantly closer to APR than you so I imagine postage may not be as steep and may go that route anyway.

I used 3M 03616 which is 7/8" wide and 15' in length, unsure how thick but it was pretty thin and wouldn't be too noticeable even for spoilers, mouldings, or badges. Had plenty left over too.

I did use spacers between the fangs for the splitter, 1" in length. I had a tough time finding them, but I got some from my dad who had aluminum spacers in the perfect sizing from his work. I was contemplating getting steel tubing or a dowel and cutting it to length because of how tough it was to source.

Is this image after your shaving of the front? Quite like that fitment; it's perfect! Glad to hear you got yours sorted, they do look good.

Looks great rockstar93. Any chance of some photographs of the entire car front and rear viewed from slightly further away to give the full effect

As promised, here's some pictures from my Season End Show & Shine. Had A LOT of positive feedback on both the splitter and side skirts. Went home with Best Z Series!

Unfortunately about an hour into the show I noticed the edging peeling off the front of the passenger side skirt. Pushed it back and got it to stick through the end of the judging, but by the time I got home it started to peel again. I'll need to remedy that soon.

Congrats on winning that first zed place. nicely done.
Car looks great. Haven't even thought about my rear mud flaps..

For all you folk thinking about cannibalising the flaps in front of the wheels just be aware they are not mud flaps. They are there for aerodynamic purposes and also exist on the front of cars too. It helps with turbulence and air flow around the wheels. Of course the car will still drive without them but it could worsen your fuel consumption due to increased drag.

Yes this was after taking a bit off, it was very slight but it just finished it off a little better. I'm wondering if I should have them stick out a little more. I like how they appear more visible in your photos but I also have different side skirts so it's hard to judge.

Congrats on the win! I have to admit your car does look pretty awesome

I put a little bit of very strong glue in each end of the edging to keep from this happening. I don't know if you will have the same where you are but I used Q-Bond as it has served me well over the years and puts anything else I've ever used to shame.

I was thinking more about altering the skirt extensions rather than mess with anything on the car but thanks for the heads up.

No problem :)

I had actually always wondered what they were for, I knew they couldn't be mud flaps but my curiosity kind of ended there. I wouldn't have guessed they could be so integral!

Just mentioned it as rockstar chopped his.

Part of why I chopped it was because one side was half missing/damaged from the previous owner, so it looked odd that I was running with it only on side. Now that I've seen how the skirts look from the rear wheel well I'll be putting the flaps back on, this time with new, un-faded rubber.

Interesting that BMW went to these lengths for turbulence in the rear wheel, but neglected the front wheel. Looking at the front of the car there's so much tire exposed on the outboard edge that kills air flow. Couple this with how 2007+ car (based on what I've read) had the wheel well vent closed off prioritizing a clean wheel well over reduced turbulence, it seems counter intuitive.

You'd be amazed how effective a well placed piece of plastic can be. Porsche even bother to put plastic flaps on the rear suspension arms to direct air onto the brakes.

You probably can't tell from the following photo but on reflection I decided to pull the skirt extensions out further, only slightly at the back and a little more dramatically at the front. In person I think it looks miles better and gives the car a wider stance.

Yep with postage it's £365. Makes me feel a lot better about the deal we got now!

Features...
- True aerodynamic aids to functionality, increasing downforce,

Something tells me they're over embellishing a little.

I was wondering, do you get a track/trace once they are ready?
And is there some sort of a schedule on when which ones ready or an estimated time how long it takes for them to make sets after they're ordered? I'm one of the last who ordered so I'll be one of the last served of course

There is a tracking number. Previously I have emailed Antreas for tracking numbers for the last two batches. I've lost count of where they are up to now with production it seems that they send batches on a Monday so I would expect they are on either batch three or batch four. I was originally told production time is a week and delivery is 7-10 days, and that was true of the first batch. However I expect that is'n entirely accurate considering the number of orders.

If you want to email Antreas for an update or to get your tracking number you can contact him at [email protected]. I'm happy to contact him myself too but I figure you might prefer to receive your information first hand rather than passed to me and then from me to you.

Hope that helps :)

Woo Hoo my set have arrived, excellent finish and from a quick "hold up" fit look to be spot on. Hopefully get around to installing this week, will post some pics when it's done. Thank you for organising this for us

Glad to hear yours got to you safe and sound and you're happy with the quality. First confirmation from one of the later batches!

More than happy with mine :fuelfire:

Did you fit the overhang/offset less than most others?
on your car the skirt extentions look quite subtle.

Yes I’ve purposely made them quite subtle, plus I don’t want to stand on them lol

The fact my new front splitter stands out so much I wanted to keep the sides less aggressive.
