Hi Everyone,
Here is the reply from CabrioShield:
“We appreciate your enquiry and the desire of the forum members to make a group buy of our product. We would like to respond positively with the offer of a discount but we have set the price as low as possible and we haven't increased the price since the Z4 Cabrio Shield was launched. With this in mind, we hope that the Cabrio Shield still represents excellent value and welcome your continued interest.”
If I’m frank, I find their unwillingness to make even a small gesture somewhat surprising, at the end of the day nobody should be turning down approximately 17 new customers.
I also contacted the following chap, here is a link to his ebay advert:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Z4-CAR-COVER-HOOD-SOFT-TOP-HALF-COVER-by-Buzz-Topz-/161196565571?pt=UK_Car_Exterior_Accessories&hash=item2588106443
I landed up having a 20 minute phone conversation with Buzz and I was really taken back at what a nice guy he appears to be. He seemed very honest and open about his product (which he actually produces himself which he says “supplements his pension”!). The way it all started is that he was looking for a decent cover for his MG and couldn’t find one so he made one himself . He works from home and only produces a few each day and only for a few models. A Z4 owner in his area saw his MG cover and asked him to make one for his Z4… so Buzz did.
He says the cover has magnets all around the edge which is covered in a cloth like material (to help avoid scratching). I did ask him for pics of it on a Z4 but he doesn’t have any. It also has a Velcro strap which attaches around the mirrors for more stability (it doesn’t cover the mirrors). The cover itself is quite heavy, around 2-3 kg’s so he says he has never had any problem with strong winds. It is made out of 1000d cordura and he explained all the costs to me, I really don’t think he makes much profit on this and so he is not able to offer a big discount for a group buy. Nonetheless (unlike Cabrio Shield) he said the best he can do is offer a 10% discount if people go directly to him and not through ebay (as that is what ebay charge him).
I am going to get one of these from Buzz, I was really impressed with him and if I am honest, I don’t feel like giving my business to Cabrio Shield when even a small home manufacturer like Buzz is prepared to make some gesture….. and they are not. If you want to see other pics of how the cover looks on other cars, look at all the products he offers on ebay and you will see pics for a S2000, MX5 etc so you can get a better idea of what it looks like and how it works. I am of course happy to share pics of mine when it arrives.
So it’s up to the rest of you on the group buy, sorry it didn’t pan out as hoped but you can obviously still order directly from Cabrio Shield if you prefer their item (at the regular price). Or if you would like to give Buzz a try, you can email him directly on:
[email protected] – don’t contact him through ebay. He will reply to your email with a Paypal invoice (so you can still pay through paypal). He will take £5 off the original price so the cover is £45, and then he says he only uses one courier as he has had trouble with the others and so the postage is still going to be around £11.88 on top of that, so in total around £57. When you email him, please mention my name (Marco) and also mention Z4 Forum so that he knows to apply the discount.
I hope this helps…..
