Thanks everyone.

As for my patience, ha ha, I have none really. Just needed to wet my Zed cherry sooner rather than later. The price I paid makes it a nice purchase.

As for winter jobs.

Yep, DISA replacement with the upgrade kit will get done.
Full detail and machine polish.
Clean up the roof and get it 'proofed' with either Nanolex or the Gtechnic equivalent.
Maybe swap the 'whippy' aerial but the OEM one is not that obtrusive or ugly so that may stay.
Wheels are in good nick but I'll have them refurbed while it's SORN. Anyone know the OEM colour of these for when they get refurbed?
Coil packs and springs can wait for now as I'll replace them as and when required.

Agreed re coil packs and springs. No need to change until they need doing.

Just remember the roof should never be sealed. It's designed to be porous and has a butyl second layer. Better use BMW kit or Ragtopp.

You'll change the aerial once you poke yourself in the eye with it...

You learn something new everyday.

So, is that right, don't seal the roof? What dos the BMW and Ragtopp kit do?

Great Zed! Right engine and right colour!

Regarding the mpg, yes 40 is is too high and definitely wrong, you need to try and get this down below 25 for maximum fun!

Thx for the comments on the garage lads.

It was the requirement of mine when we bought the house last year, it had to have a double garage so that I could eventually, as in the Z4, buy a weekend/summer project.

I'm a bit OCD when it comes to detailing/keeping the car looking mint. The odd member on here may know me from the DW site.

Looking forward to getting the Z4 looking nice n glossy!!

Hello

Just one word of warning regarding the coil packs .. its not just a case of replacing when they need doing .. once they go they go. You have a primary coil and a secondary coil, normally the secondary coil will go open circuit just like that (normally on start up) and can be the most awkward place and can be very inconvenient ..

I had this happen on our X3 (same engine M54) and our E85 3.0i when we owned it ... once we where in the lake district on our way home to the hotel.

These coil packs are getting old now so just trying to help from experience, they are about £29 each .. at least purchase one as a spare and leave it in the boot ( or a good used one ) just a good proactive piece of servicing .. don't get caught out like we did.

Thanks for the heads up. Carrying a spare is a good shout, I'll look into that.

Another question please lads.

No wind deflector with the car so that needs sorting as our A5 Cab was like night and day with and without the wind defector up.

Where can I get one from and which/what are the best ones to go for and what budget??

also they are very easy to change .. I have a few old ones in my garage that I can send you if you want .. just pm me you address and I will send you a couple

To be honest I would go OEM . .they are expensive but fit and work really well .. some dealers will give you discount if you are a member of the BMW owners club or this forum for example, so may save you a few £s

Yes - 3 layer roof
From BMW:
The roof is actually 3 layers. The outer layer is itself 3 layers of poly-acryoniltrite fibres, polyethylene fibres and butyl rubber. Underneath that is a 15mm layer of insulating polyester (sound proof and warmth) and the final inner layer of polyurethane foam and polyethersulfone, for inside finish and insulation.

2 I mentioned are 2 part systems that clean then protect the fabric. Firstly to get rid of dirt and grit that breaks the fibres down, then protect each fibre. Folks spray anything on like Fabsil tent seal or old style 'canvas' soft opening restorers and expect the roof to last....

My roof is 12 years old and aside a few crease marks as good as the day it left the factory.
