Hi all.

I've asked a few questions about a future purchase and after a successful viewing, I've just driven back in a 2005 (55) 3.0i Z4 in Sterling Grey with 37k on the clock and FSH.

I must say, that engine note on start up is sweet music to my ears, I was sold before the test drive in truth.

As for the Sterling Grey metallic paint, I love it. Pics/Photo's in ad's etc... don't do it justice but with the sun on it today, it's a lovely colour indeed.

Unfortunately, the sun had just set as we arrived back late this afternoon so for now, there's only one sneaky pic of the beaut tucked up the garage where it'll stay until early 2016 as it's a keeper and not being used/abused during the winter months.

Thanks to all of you who gave advice/pointers etc.... a cracking forum with a good bit of banter that I look forward to contributing towards over the coming months/years.

Some things to do over winter .. that are cheap

1. check the disa valve, a easy check
2. change the coil packs as they may be the originals .. cheap OEM bosch ones at euro parts as I had one go
3. while you are changing the coil packs change the plugs
4. check the rear springs .. cheap and easy to replace if needed

some more pics when ready ..

I admire your self-discipline to go a whole winter with no Zeddng!!

Looks very nice..

Enjoy!

Very nice. Same colour and engine as mine, so bound to agree it's a good choice.

Locking it away - no chance. Mine's an '03 minter and cherished, but gets driven all year, hardtop on and garaged.

Your patience has paid off - low miles and that's a fabulous original colour that suits the Zed and I particularly like the ellipsoid wheels.

Thanks everyone.

As for my patience, ha ha, I have none really. Just needed to wet my Zed cherry sooner rather than later. The price I paid makes it a nice purchase.

As for winter jobs.

Yep, DISA replacement with the upgrade kit will get done.
Full detail and machine polish.
Clean up the roof and get it 'proofed' with either Nanolex or the Gtechnic equivalent.
Maybe swap the 'whippy' aerial but the OEM one is not that obtrusive or ugly so that may stay.
Wheels are in good nick but I'll have them refurbed while it's SORN. Anyone know the OEM colour of these for when they get refurbed?
Coil packs and springs can wait for now as I'll replace them as and when required.

Oh, I know the onboard computer isn't to be relied upon for MPG but I reset it before I drove the 60 odd miles back home made up of 75% motorway at 75mph and long B roads at 40-60mph and managed to avg 40.9mpg???

Is that right as it seems to be rather high. I was expecting an avg of 30-35mpg.

I'm sure you'll bond with your car, the 6 cylinder engines make them a pleasure to drive :driving:
I've got the si version & have had even better economy than that on a long gentle run, the obc is accurate to 1mpg on my car
Regards
