You're on a hiding to nothing putting this sort of thing on a Forum because you get a load of comments from people who have OBVIOUSLY done nothing wrong on the road EVER. So that means they are happy to let you know in as sanctimonious manner as possible the error of your ways.

There's 3 people in particular on this forum that can't wait to get on the keyboard to 'post their opinion' in most of the threads I've started where they see an opportunity to give a derogatory opinion, Ben being one of them.
Business as usual.

Overtaking near a junction is dodgy. I've probably done it before and got away with it. It's just the luck of the draw.
Carol M said:Just to try and clarify, if it makes any difference, I wasn't 'near' a junction. The piece of road is in the countryside, it is a long very straight stretch with the junction (which is just a single track road) near the end of the long bit. I've looked on google maps and I was approx .7 of a mile (1232 yards) from the junction when I pulled out to overtake. I was doing between 55-60 mph and accelerating, I saw the van pull straight out and put my foot down to make doubly sure. I was back on my side in PLENTY of time. The driver of the van was doing the w@nker motion as he passed me just to be an arse for whatever reason (there seems to be a few arses about I notice)
I thought I'd do a thread on here to discuss if we generally look left when turning left at a junction as the driver of the van appeared to me to not even be slowing at his give way sign.
Just because I said the van driver was gesturing doesn't mean I had done anything dangerous. A lot of people on here have had gestures and insults from other drivers for no reason.
You, and others, are assuming I was driving dangerously because I said the idiot was gesturing.

Carol if you were travelling at 55mph you would have accelerated to 75mph, giving an average overtaking speed of 65mph which is the same as 29 meters per second. Approximately 7 seconds to overtake the lorry (18 meters + 4 car lengths) which equals 203 meters. If the van would have pulled out at the same time he would have travelled 91 meters (assuming average speed of 30mph). This would have meant there was still a distance of more than 800 meters between you and the van.
Safe driving from both sides!!!
He hasn't taken in to account the headwind, the lorry accelerating and swerving in front of the Porsche "W*nker / W*nkess", the school kids crossing the road or the cute kittens and their parents in the farm trackslick said:Einsteins got nothing on you son ......
Or the weight of the van which may have been loaded with scrap parts and remains from Porche cars which have been involved in accidents at or near junctionsJasey said:He hasn't taken in to account the headwind, the lorry accelerating and swerving in front of the Porsche "W*nker / W*nkess", the school kids crossing the road or the cute kittens and their parents in the farm track
