Got called a w*nker today!

Can I just point out my post was to ask about what people thought about looking left when turning left onto a main road.
The usual suspects have to pop up with their opinions on whether I was in the right or not. You weren't there and probably don't know the road I had PLENTY of time and room to get round the lorry. I was nowhere near the junction when I overtook.
I was prompting a discussion on looking left when at a junction.

At the end of the day the van driver might not have looked both ways but it was Carol who was overtaking and on the van drivers side of the road.

The van driver is at a junction, it's not HIS side of the road until he pulls out - rtfhc :lol:

I had to give a witness statement to the police a few years back when a guy on a moped went to over take the car in front, a car pulled out of a side road and the moped went straight into him. guy got away with a couple of broken bones but could have been much worse.

I think blame-wise I would say that as the van driver/car in the above is joining the road, they should give way to anything already on it but in my story the guy on the moped was going well over the 30 mph limit so should also share the blame imo

This isn't about whether white van drivers are generally wankers, or whether Carol is a w***er, it's about driving with due care and attention. Assuming what Carol says is true about distance from the junction and the van not being there when she started the overtake, the van driver was not driving with due care and attention and video of the footage would show that.

Most of the time I drive like everyone else is about to do something stupid, and now after so many years driving on some of the busiest roads in the country I can fairly often predict what someone is going to do by their driving style, road position, speed, direction of vision or some other cue. Doesn't mean I am a pefect driver and haven't gotten myself into some silly (sometimes terrifying) situations though, and I reckon pretty much anyone who claims not to have done similar is a liar.
