Got brave - removing the wood! FINISHED

Then perhaps left off from a previous removal on yours, or you did it before and knew how. It's a total pita and requires a certain dexterity to reach to it. Once removed it's obvious how easy it undoes
It was there, the metal pinch clip. Dash would be hanging off without it.
Funny you should say this - I've read other posts that say the clip is pointless and can more or less be binned as the dash will stay secure without it. Personally, I'd be doing my best to refit the clip if I could, but interested to know if it really is necessary.

And OP - the Piano black looks better than the 'gentlemen's club' wood look

Initially I thought the metal pinch clip was pointless however when I put it back together the left hand side of the dash panel wasn't sitting flush, (springing out slightly) so I reinstated the clip and that sorted it.

Great job OP.

You interior had been transformed!

Whoever thought wood trim was a good look for a Z4.....? First owner needs to be found and dealt with.

The clip that is so awkward to get to and remove can be replaced with one of the same clips that hold the rest of the dash piece. They hold the end part of the dash securely and I think that's what people mean when they say to to discard the over engineered and seemingly pointless original fixing.

The black looks fabulous. I hate the brushed aluminum in mine, it is hideous with the champagne interior IMO.

I shall have to investigate this job myself.
