Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3's

Hi all,

Your guidance would be appreciated ..

Having read lots of helpful threads about getting rid of the runflats, I'm looking to purchase a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3's for my Coupe Si. I've had a look at Blackcircles and can get all corners fitted for £447 - for the following;

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3's
Front - 225/40 R18 Y (92)
Rear - 255/35 R18 Y (94)

Question are - it this the right specification for my standard MV2 R18 wheels (speed rating etc) and although the forum lists plenty of positives for the Asymmetric 2's are the newer 3's equally as good? Also do they need to be * (star) rated for BMW use?

I'm also looking to get one of these kits to keep in the boot;

Thanks for any help
Cheers
Neil

I've got just that on my coupe and love the tyres! massive difference from my fk453s that I have on my csl reps.

took 300ish miles to properly bead in but now they're brilliant!

Hi

I am having a set of these fitted tomorrow. They are the same sizes as yours. The total cost will be £366 including fitting and balancing. I am using a Formula One Autocentre. I don't know if there is one in your area but it would be worth having a look. Hope this helps.

I am also going to fit those to my car, still have 3mm on rear to last a couple more months.

Can I put these on rear and then continue with my run flats on the front until they need replacing? Or must all be done at the same time (i.e. swap for None RFT?)

Spent a lot of time searching for appropriate fitment for my M and couldn't get a matched set of Eagles in M sizes (Ass 2 on one axle and Ass 3 on the other). Had I been able to I would have had them fitted as I think they are an excellent tyre for the money; I have used 3 sets on both my previous 2 litre and 3.0si and in all conditions they were excellent. Have not used the 3s but they are a direct replacement for the 2s and therefore I would have gone for them. I eventually had Michelin Pilot Super Sports fitted and they were £200 dearer a set - so far so good with them (even in the bitter cold of last Monday).
I'm no specialist but from my recent searching I believe the * means that they recommended fitment for certain makes (doesn't mean you can't use other tyres or fit them on other makes of cars) - the XL means the tyre is the maximum load version available. What is important in regard to that is that the loading is MORE than that specified for the car NOT under.
Do take note of the scrubbing in needed (mentioned above) - for some reason the Eagles take longer than other tyres to bed in - I found between 100- 200 miles before they gave their best - after that they were superb.

I have a BMW repair kit which comes with the M - (they are fitted with non runflat tyres as standard and come with this inflation kit. In my 2 litre and 3 litre I carried an inflator (bought for about £12 from Tescos) and a couple of cans of Goo to repair a puncture.
The kit you are looking at has a 'goo' which can be washed away - that's good as I have heard that some places won't fix or deal with tyres that are filled with certain fixing products. . . .)

I tried a very short spell with run flats on front and normal tyres on rear, It was lethal, tramlining was horrendous. Would not recommend that sett up :o

Hi,

I am looking for the same and have an F1 autocentre close by, can I ask which centre provided the quote so I can reference as just called and didn't receive a quote for anything like this..... Thanks in advance !

I've got these exact tyres all round, 40/225 on the front and 35/255 on the rear (standard 18" Z4 size). I got them off blackcircles last year. How they compare to other tyres I'm not sure but they're grippy in the wet and dry, and easily capable of containing 230hp, far better than the falken run flats I had previously. After 6 months and 4000 miles they don't seem to have worn too much either.

The 3 is a much more rounded profile than the 2 so for the 'same size' there's less kerb protection and less rubber on the road by around 1-2cm. Still a good tyre though. I would recommend you get 245/40/18 on the rear as I have on my Coupe Si because the speedo is then pretty much bang on rather than over reading by a few mph. Furthermore, you get better ride quality as there's about 9mm more tyre sidewall, better handling with less understeer due to less stagger, it's actually in the sweet spot for the recommended width for an 8.5J wheel and a bit of rake to place more weight over the front which again reduces understeer. The only downside is it's a few quid more per tyre.

I've actually just fitted a 235/40/18 Pilot Sport 4 on the front of mine as I wanted a wider front tyre but the extra 4mm of sidewall means it rubs with my 10mm spacers and being lowered on Eibach springs. Even without spacers there is a tiny amount of rubbing so stick with 225/40/18. It's too early to tell on grip compared to the F1 but they felt like they were starting to scrub in today and they do feel like they support you well when loaded up. They are more expensive than the F1 but they are a squarer profile so more protection and rubber on the road. I'm probably going to switch to Michelin PS4 going forwards if they work as I hope but the F1 is a great tyre. I've used them since the original v-pattern before they went asymmetric and the wet performance in particular is ace.

I can get 20,000 miles from F1s with a mixture of commuting and fun driving. Get the XL version as it's a stronger construction that helps with cornering ability as well as fat cars. To be honest you'll struggle to buy the non XL version, if there even is one in these sizes, as everyone sells the XL as standard.

I ordered the following and having them fitted on Friday;

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3's
Front - 225/40 R18 Y (92)
Rear - 245/40 R18 Y (97)

The 245/40 on the rear were actually a bit cheaper than the 255/35 .... hoping the ride will be better .....

34 psi front and 36 rear, the correct pressure for these?

Thanks again
Neil :thumbsup:

Where and how much ££££££££ ?

Hi leep

My tyres did not arrive as promised today. Hopefully this will be rectified tomorrow. As soon as I have had them fitted at the price quoted I will provide you with the details and branch of Formula One. Don't want to lead anyone up the garden path.

That's changed then as the 245/40/18 is a less common size and this seems to have a bearing on pricing. My 235/40/18 was about £40 more per tyre than the 225/40/18. I don't think you'll be disappointed with the 245, it still looks plenty wide from behind and it's more than capable of handling the power. The 135 for example uses a 245.

Hi leep

New tyres and wheels fitted today. Tyres cost £366 for the Goodyears including balancing and fitting. They were fitted at the Grantham branch of Formula One Autocentres and the manager Giles quoted the price.IMG_1016.JPGIMG_1011.JPG

That's an amazing price! I pay around £430 delivered for The assymetric 2s from Camskill. Standard 18in z4 sizes.
