Goodness me!

Those of you that have met me know I'm not exactly short, but I have shrunk. For whatever reason I grew rapidly and was 6ft aged 12 and 6'4 at 17. I'd shrunk to just under 6'2 a few years ago and have been static at that height a while as witnessed by the door frame marks for me and the kids over the years.

So having given up martial arts a couple of years ago I was beginning to show signs of a sedentary lifestyle [you mean you were becoming an ill tempered fat b4stard -ed] so I took up swimming. Needing to build up a bit of core strength and after a recommendation to have a go by a close friend who teaches, I took a couple of yoga classes. Enjoying it very much I signed up for a course of lessons and have this week finished my twelfth session. 90mins a session twice a week. I'll tell you one thing, it's a bit of a work out!

Anyway, someone suggested that I check height again as it's not unknown for people doing Pilates or yoga to grow a bit and what of you know? Just over 1cm taller!

Anyway, it's amused me and I know people can't resist the chance to take the piss so here you go :)

Ommm

Hmm, if it works for your whole body, maybe it will work for my...

It could be the yoga making your posture better overall and therefore you are standing straighter when being measured.

I empathise with you mate - I was normal height until 12 and then everything went haywire - 6'4" at 14 and 6'6" at 16 and eventually 6'7" ! For 30 years I remained just over 11 stone ( beanpole ) then the dreaded middle age spread set in and now I'm 15 stone - not aware I've got shorter in recent years but you never know :o

As has been said though everything in proportion

I stand straight pressed against a wall, so I think I'm being constant. My height has stayed constant since I shrank back down a bit. My peak height was measured by a doc at BA when I did my medical on joining.

Gov, I hated being tall at that age, it made you a target. Now I've noticed I'm closer to the average. They're breeding them taller these days it seems :)

which is worst, being tall or small?

when i was younger i had such a complex about being small, i was often in trouble cos of it, i would fight anybody who thought they could look down on me :headbang:

What she said - sadly you can't grow in height once your physes close at the end of puberty. Some body parts can still enlarge after growth stops though, hence the big hands, feet, tongue, jaw, brow etc of acromegaly.

I'd bet if you had measured your thorax and limbs separately before and after training all the increase would have been in your thorax, likely from improved spine posture as your core strength and stability increased.

Although I am 6'3" I usually found it was not my height, but my mouth that got me in to trouble when I was at school.

Is it true your ears never stop growing?

Undoubtedly it's my back straightening up, but it's still nice to see something happening.
