Goodbye Old Friend

A really sad day in the Douglas household today. We had to have our lovely Gordon Setter put to sleep. She has been with us for more than eleven years since we rescued her. During that time she has given us enormous pleasure and unconditional love. I know there are quit a few pet owners on the Forum so you will know just how we feel. :( D9822309-FF7B-47F4-8547-38293D9AD5AE.jpeg

Thanks guys. Even a runout in the Z with top down didn’t raise spirits today.

cry%20(220).gif Sad news.
Been where you are now on more than one occasion and will be there again one day but the time you've spent with them is always worth it :)
Have a few beers to cheer yourelf up drink%20(272).gif

Sad times Fella, I know it will come with mine one day and i'm dreading it.
All you can do is reflect and know that you gave them a good safe home and best life that you were able to.

Thank you for, in the midst of your grief, having the courage to ease the suffering.
Rest assured you have done the right thing, however difficult it may seem and however bad you feel right now.

We have a great power over the lives of our pets. We should not abuse that by making them suffer just to make us feel better.

Look back on all the good times with a smile and a clear conscience.

Much appreciated thoughts. We have many happy memories. She went just about everywhere with us and when I was still working I took her with me. You are right enuff-zed you have to do what’s best for the dog. This last few days we had really been keeping her alive for us. In the end we had to do the right thing. Our other little dog has taken it badly too. She is only three and Beauty was here when she brought Ruby home as a ten week old pup.
Folks who are not dog lovers will think it’s just a load of sentimental claptrap. But those with dogs of their own will know it’s almost like losing one of the family.
Cheers
Ian

Really sad news, Ian.

But as you say we have to do what's best for them however painful it is for us.

And you have a store of great memories.

All the best to you both.

The worst thing in having a furry friend is the goodbye. We all dont want it to happen. Remember the awesome times you had is always the best way to absorb the pain today and onward. Must admit I hope also it never comes but give your other dog extra hugs tonight.
Have a Rosie and Henry photo from me.

All I can say is feel good in yourself that he had a happy long life with you IRD, you cannot give an animal anymore than that, there’s nothing more important than happiness. Letting them go is so kind when the time comes, I applaud your courage as an animal and pet lover. Sleep well tonight friend, you did good.

There is no easy way of dealing with it but it does help when others understand your predicament and sympathise. This is the fifth time over the years that I have had to do this and as I get older I find it more difficult. Perhaps because my turn might come before too long!! :?
