Good and Bad News

How old are you? Under 25at least I'm sure.

£1800 is a fair old wedge for insurance but basically if you can afford it, then you don't need to ask anyone on here, it's your call.

Personally when I first started driving at 18 (1997) I was paying £600 Third party, fire and theft on a Ford Escort that I bought for £550, living in east london!! My stereo set-up was worth more than the car! lol. That said, the thoughts of paying £1800 for insurance now would put me off, well, in fact, I just wouldn't pay that kind of premium........... I'm aware this is of no help as I've just totally contradicted myself.... :)

Well after a long conversation with the insurance company, they have decided that they can insure me on strictly a 2003 2.5 but cannot be the SE, so basicly a bog standard, and has for some crazy reason to be an auto.......

But the insurance is 1800....... I feel that a 2.5 auto would still be great fun ? And worth losing the manual box in order to still own a z4 and pay what i would call a very reasonable figure.....

Thoughts ???? :(

If you go ahead just make sure you prove them wrong in believing you are a bad risk ....drive sensibly and don't have any claims and enjoy the Ultimate Driving Machine

Thanks for the merging

For me, a 1800 premium is pretty standard and is something i am happy to pay, especially for the likes of a z4, the age has to be 2003 according to insurance, so means that i save money on the car, as il be able to get the car for around 7500 8000 rather than the 10k i was looking to spend.......

My only concern is the auto box, and if that will limit how much enjoyment i will get out of the car

You'll still enjoy it with an auto box. One thing I would consider is, likely Sammyz said, an MX5. You'd get one of the last Mk2.5 cars 1.8 Sport with limited slip diff for around 7k on an 05/55 plate.

Not to spoil your Z4 dream but I think you'd enjoy learning rear wheel drive in something like that, without ESP.

I bought my 2008 3.0si when I was 20 and it cost me £1300 to insure, but I have these :titshake:

£1800 to insure a Z4 as a 20 year old male is not bad at all in my opinion. I'd go as far to say as being quite good. The 2.5 auto is still a great car, I'm sure you wouldn't be dissapointed. I'd go for it if you can afford it. Why waste time on a car you don't really want just because of the price of insurance, when you'd just be pining for a Z4.

Heart over head wins it for me :driving:

Get your house/flat first then the car...

Don't waste your money on cars at that age.... you'll live to regret it IMO.

Not sure I agree, signs are for a flat market medium term and impossible-to-get mortgages short-term...any other time I'd say do the house first, but not in these times....

I'm paying £1400 from Admiral and I'm a 35-y/o professional, albeit in a BS postcode with a blindspot for speed camera vans. This was down from £2K by adding the wife as a named driver!! £3k for 20 don't sound too bad!

If I have got this right, you have to get a 2003 2.5 auto to make a saving of 1200 notes. :? :?

Others have said you would be mad to pay £3K for insurance, You tell us you can afford it but are asking if you would be mad to pay it.
If you continue to be a regular member of this forum, within 2 years you will have spent more than £1,200 on mods and meets, and trust me after your first meet you will regret your decision to bend over and do as the insurance company command, F**k the expense, you only live once and you are only young once. if money is not the issue get what you want and enjoy it, learn to drive it properly and safely and you will have more fun in one good summer than 5 years of holidays.

Good luck with whatever you decide

Seems alot for insurance... I got my Coupe when I was 20 and cost me £1500 to insure im now 21 and renewal cost me £1264.

I found I couldn't insure a convertible which was over the 2.5 SE model spec.

Which insurance company are you going with? I find Bell to be the cheapest with 2 older named drivers and parked on street.

Uff guys,, reading this topic its really depresive for me..

I am from Slovakia = for those who dont know, yes we are country, yes we do have roads, and NO we do not ride horses any more:))
I am 26, and I do pay, 800 EUR for insurance for my Z4 2.5i, and after 3 years i will pay something like 200eur. a year. So your insurance its so rediculus high!! We do have a little bit different system in SVK, but what I have manage to do, is not to pay an insurance on my name - Big city, 26, male = HIGH risk :), but to buy the car on company, and pay is as a company insurace. But probably its something you cant do in UK.. I quess..

you 20, z4 is a p@ssy magnet.. if you have enought money to pay the insurance go for it. Dont care about house etc.. :))))

just pay it mate - I did a few years ago and it was worth every penny. I aint looking back someday thinking why didnt I just do this or that etc. if you are into your cars, you will not regret it!

Well im 64 and only pay £480 but I would love to pay £3K and be 20. Enjoy this is not a practice

Well i went ahead and got very lucky, and managed to get insurance on a manual for the 1800...and i have bought my 1st z4 :)

I pick it up from the dealer at the weekend and can start driving as off a week on thursday !! :driving: :D

Thanks for all the advice etc, 1800 for insurance is something i would happily pay for such a car and feel that i have got a bargain

3 grand for insurance !!!!! its making me gag ...... :D

Depends on how badly you need the Zed ........ Id be tempted to buy a clunker and use the 3 grand to hire exotics every now and again .......

It may be worth adding a female onto your policy as a named driver... your girlfriend, mom, sister, friend etc. The female does not have to drive it, and it should bring the cost down.

I put my girlfriend on and it reduced the insurance by £150... not much I know but still a good saving! Just need to stop her constant pining to drive it :driving:
