GONE!

Having had no interest in my car over the last month on here and 2 weeks on ebay, can anyone give me any insight into what they think im doing wrong? Or is it just the wrong time of year to sell... :(

Im not looking to give it away but do want to sell soonish

imho you're doing nothing wrong but it is an enthusiasts car so you just have to wait for the right buyer, 12.5k is a lot of dollar for an 8 year old car and not many people see past that, just gotta wait for the right punter to be in the market for one

Nothing wrong indeed, but being an Auto box will limit the target audience somewhat. I don't know what the exact ratio is between manual and auto gearbox numbers on the road (let's assume 80/20), that means you are chasing a 20% slice of people wanting such a car with that gear box.

Good colour /interior combo, nice spec and low miles all going for it and although it would be my preference an auto is not for everybody. The short'ish MOT (Jan) and insp 2 service being due will put off some buyers already stretching their budget. IF you are expecting to take an offer I'd drop the price to reflect the service cost (or get it serviced) and mark it as a FIRM price. You are more likely to get viewings that way.

Good luck it's a lovely car and pretty much what I'de be after if I was going to the 'dark (in)side'

Thanks guys, I just need to be patient I guess :)

MOT will be no issue, done 3000 miles since the last and had all the brakes done since then

Appreciate what people are saying about the service, I took that into consideration when pricing it. I will keep that in mind with the sale.

You did ask :? Honest feedback & thoughts
Imo you are asking top money in a falling market ( as in there are M cars for sale all around that figure :o )
Yes a good spec but its a 07 car needing a service & rapidly heading for 50k ( so not particularly low miles )
Additionally i'm not convinced the wheel finish is enhancing your sale prospects .
We can all number crunch & put a clouded value on our own cars but ultimately if the phone hasn't rung 9 out of 10 times its down to the price or a bad advert & your pics & description are better than most
If you want it gone this side of March i would think a ask of around £11000/£11450 may see some interest :o
A bitter pill maybe but dealers are offering very similar cars for much less than your ask price so as a private sale you would need to be at least £500 under those to get interest
Hope you prove me wrong Ro & get what you want

Thanks for the constructive feedback, I appreciate honesty.

I agree about the MOT if it doesnt sell now I shall keep it till Jan/Feb and have the inspection & MOT done and then sell.

Agree the cheapest M Roadsters start around £12k but do have over 100k on the clock, I personally wouldnt refer to them as competition purely due to the manual vs auto point made previously but do take this under advisement.
Agree re the wheels, perhaps I could offer a trade with a member for standard alloys to help bolster the value retained.
I think 11/11.5 is a litte harsh but bear in mind the work required and dealer prices maybe it should be a little more in the middle at £12k... I do think this particular example stands above any other auto coupes on the market (of similar age / miles) due to the spec and condition.

All very good thinking points. I will allow the ad to run on ebay, see if I gain any traction but in all likelihood keep it until Jan / Feb when hopefully X4 residuals have fallen enough to warrant a cost to change or if not .. hang up the BMW boots and buy the Evoque even if it is just for a year or two..

Thanks all

Been talking to one of the buyers at Sytner today who has told me he wants my car and would market it for £13,850 (subject to viewing)

At £12k then I think Im about the right price for the car so come on peeps grab a bargain :D :D :D Id rather it went to a forum member than BMW!

I suspect the dealer would bid you far less than £12k as it's unbelievable they would only put on an £1850 markup, but if he has then bite both of his arms off!

Its not too far below so is a good backup but obviously not my first choice

Do people feel sticking it on autotrader will attract a potential buyer? I still havnt had a single real enquiry despite reducing the price..

for me its the red calipers & non standard colour wheels that are putting buyers off. they both scream 'messed with'

people who are paying top money for a car of 7 years old over 10 grand want it original as possible

Just my 2p.

It's the mot
I would buy if had funds
Granted I would rather have manual
The car is fantastic just needs 12 months mot for buyers piece of mind
Then will sell
Also think autotrader is better place to sell top class car
Ebay for barging hunters

Good luck with the sale!

I'd seriously consider autotrader. I've had very good luck with it in the past.

Thanks for the input guys - Much appreciated.

I'm going to let the ebay ad run / keep it for sale at this price till the end of the month. If it doesnt sell by then I will have the Insp 2 done, fresh MOT in Jan and sell it then for £12k
