Gone and bought me an E89!

Hello,

New here. Bought a white 2013 E89 18i M sport with 19s last week and am waiting for it to be delivered (Friday).

It needs a little tidying to bring it back to A1 (couple of small scuffs on front splitter, wheels needs a refurb), but has only 25k miles.

The driver's seat has some wear on the bolster which concerned me initially for a low mileage car, but having done some research doesn't seem uncommon? Will order some restorer when I get the car.

I wanted an 18i, as the prices are lower than the other 4 pots, and am planning on re-mapping it.

I have seen some really impressive quoted figures for a simple re-map, which concern me a bit. I have been quoted 270bhp and 30% more torque from a 20 minute software upload for £300. Any thoughts? I am sure that the N20 engine is the same in all the 2 litres, just with different maps from the factory. Someone can enlighten me if this isn't the case.

Anyway
cheers
Pond

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I hope the next couple of days don't drag too much until your car is delivered, and don't forget we like to see photos!

Sorry I can't help regarding a re-map as i've only had E86s.

It's Ok because it won't be driven until the weather improves, anyway. I haven't actually seen the car yet, only a video walkround from a kid with a mobile phone! I never thought I would buy a car without seeing it in the flesh and haggling over money. Welcome the world of pandemics I suppose!
I have been spending the last week researching the bits I need to do to make it 100%. When it comes to my own cars I am a perfectionist (I have two lease cars which I couldn't care less about as they will never be mine). I've also been researching the next petrol-related project and trying to justify the costs involved! :)

Hi Pond, yes mechanicals are identical for the range. Is the mapper a known outfit?
Hi, yes it's Superchips. I've used them before and have had no problems.

Thanks for the replies.

I have been a petrolhead all my life (I'm old now) but sort of "forgot" for the last 15 years as have spent all my time doing other things (I have been renovating and building houses as a "hobby"). All that's done now so I want to enjoy myself again and this last year has woken me up to the 'live for today' ideal.

I thought Superchips went bust ? I know a mate had an email from them a he has a handset and online maps / account with them. Hopefully someone has bought them out.
Oh and hi and welcome :trampoline:

Apparently they did! Map Kings bought them out, but are still trading as Superchips. We shall see :o

Welcome aboard.
The remap sounds like a standard offering that many N20 owners have applied, me included. It's a big difference on a 20i, so I'd guess will feel even more on yours.
From many discussions on the subject (search out PBondar's posts) it seems by far the best approach is to find somewhere with a rolling road and get before and after printouts as a very minimum. Finding someone who will also tweak and tailor the map to your car is even better and worth the little extra outlay.

I know it's not very original, it seems 90% of E89s are white M sport but I am actually really impressed; certainly by the looks. These are pretty cars!
It doesn't have much kit but as it's a summer car I actually like that. Not sure if the wind deflector came as standard but it has one. Just got to sort out the few little bits and pieces it needs to get it 100%.

It drives well. Well it did for the 20 feet from the trailer into the garage!! :D

Pondrew, I also own a 2013 Msport 18i, wait til you get it mapped it will come as a big shock as the difference is phenomenal 👌

White is the 2nd best colour after VO an the only real spec you need is heated seats for the fine winter morning drives
Oh it won't be going out in the winter! Apart from this winter as need to make sure it's all OK before the stealer's warranty runs out.
