What part of the speech wasn’t vague?

So long as it’s sensible, will be fine. 15miles ish seems sensible to me. 50+ miles and that’s pushing it IMO.

Say it out load, “so you drove 15miles to do a few hours exercise?” Or “so you drove 60miles for a few hours exercise?”

Everything is open to opinions!

He said " you can drive to other destinations" , it wasnt linked with exercise & definitely didn't say the journey was to carry out any particular purpose.

It was linked to exercise, wasn’t it? Could have been more explicit, but it was in the part of the speech re. exercise, as in a subtext of “you could only exercise locally before... now you can exercise anywhere”.

Fastforward to 8min40 sec  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtQ7osi32jk

From the horses mouth, five minutes ago:

There are no specific limits on distances drivers can travel within one of the UK nations under the new rules, Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab has said.

"You can drive as far as you want to, for example to walk in a park or particular area you're fond of, as long as you maintain the social distancing," he tells BBC Breakfast.

"But obviously if you're going from one part of the UK to another - from England to Wales or Scotland to Wales - different rules are in place because the devolved governments take a different approach."

sounds good. got a lovely little route round from our house down some quiet country lanes, for sure will be going for a drive at some point. Will be 7 weeks without driving tomorrow, first thing i'll need to do is check the tyre pressures!

will still be avoiding other people like the plague though!

Missus is well p****d off as her car sprang a coolant leak yesterday and is now in bits awaiting a new expansion tank.
And she needn't think she's having mine!!!

So it'll be "well officer, my excuse for speeding is........................"

Exercise no longer a requirement. You can go out and just sit on a park bench or have a picnic. The thing is though, we all need to stop taking things so literal and start thinking for ourselves. The virus hasn’t really changed.
Yip, just because you can doesnt mean you should.
The bottom line is you are trying to look after your family and friends.

As I understand it the R number is still higher in Scotland which is why the regulations haven't changed much. I see little difference in self isolating in my car to sitting in my front room. As long as social distancing rules are still observed I don't see any harm in it or how it will endanger my family or friends.

And as long as you dont break down or have an accident it should be fine.
The family and friends part was not about driving, although they may want to visit you in hospital.

Same old thing applies. If you want to drive and it's now 'ok' to do so, then fine. But don't advertise it on here if you won't like the responses.

Everybody likes statistics.
On the day of lockdown there were 149 deaths and everybody was wanting the country locked down.
Yesterday things were relaxed a bit, people are wanting lockdown stopped and yet there were 268 deaths. A few days ago there were over 600.
Is it really the right time to relax things?
Even in Scotland on the day of lockdown there was less than 10 but yesterday there was 49.

Probably best to just leave it in the garage for a few months, and then when you do eventually take it out,
You’ll be that ring rusty, you’ll probably end up in a hedge somewhere.
It’s about common sense.
You can go out for a drive , but drive sensibly, which I’m sure we all do.

Yes, that’s the part I’m talking about too.

Heading home earlier today with radio on Evan Davies "PM" show on R4 16-45pm . talking with Chris Mason (BBC) who confirmed after talks with chief scientist that the government are happy for anyone to take drives out now :) based on the likelihood that most would visit areas within a reasonable drive the Yorks Dales was mentioned specifically as was Lake District & included in the dialogue was the thinking being it would be highly unlikely during these visits that anyone would spread the virus unless there were groups congregating ( if this was the case & continued then they would consider revoking the permission)
Also highlighted that it wasn't acceptable to stay over either camping ,booking self catering accommodation or to stay in own holiday home .

I think I will need to go to a shop - I just need to decide where now! :)

Easy mate don’t be coming over the border from the wrong side of the Pennines to take advantage of our superior roads and speed camera vans :poke:
