Yes, that’s the part I’m talking about too.

Heading home earlier today with radio on Evan Davies "PM" show on R4 16-45pm . talking with Chris Mason (BBC) who confirmed after talks with chief scientist that the government are happy for anyone to take drives out now :) based on the likelihood that most would visit areas within a reasonable drive the Yorks Dales was mentioned specifically as was Lake District & included in the dialogue was the thinking being it would be highly unlikely during these visits that anyone would spread the virus unless there were groups congregating ( if this was the case & continued then they would consider revoking the permission)
Also highlighted that it wasn't acceptable to stay over either camping ,booking self catering accommodation or to stay in own holiday home .

Easy mate don’t be coming over the border from the wrong side of the Pennines to take advantage of our superior roads and speed camera vans :poke:
 planning to cross over without needing my Lancashire passport by scooting through the Trough of Bowland & up to Ribblehead through the Bentham backdoor :D :driving:

On radio 4, 5pm news they made it clear after reading the 50 page document. That it is now possible in England to drive your car anywhere, so long as you don’t travel to areas such as the Lakedistrict to do things such as fell walking. I live in County Durham so I’ll be on roads round Weardale & Teesdale area. I bet the mobile speed cameras will be out in force at weekend, so stay alert :o

I listened to the actual discussion at 4-45pm & they didn't say don't travel to any particular place ( Lakes & Dales both mentioned specifically ) but follow the guidelines when you get there , without spelling it out i took that as don't drive for 4 hrs to spend 30mins then 4hrs back :?

Yip, just because you can doesnt mean you should.
The bottom line is you are trying to look after your family and friends.

As I understand it the R number is still higher in Scotland which is why the regulations haven't changed much. I see little difference in self isolating in my car to sitting in my front room. As long as social distancing rules are still observed I don't see any harm in it or how it will endanger my family or friends.

Yes the R number is higher in Scotland but we're two or three weeks behind England and specifically London. Scotland is also reporting the care home statistics where England isn't fully reporting them. Rumours are it could be over 50,000 deaths in England due to this virus if care homes are included. That's 2nd highest in the world behind the yanks.

The R number didn't help with Chuck Windsor and the 2nd wife causing a spike in cases or the non tax paying Tory funding Care home sending people to Skye from Kent. Or the blocking of PPE purchases by Westminster as England took priority or removing test equipment by the army from a University or not involving Holyrood in any info, plans or anything else Westminster were doing or refusing test kits, suggestions and ideas etc, etc, etc.

Airports would have been doing checks, blocking flights and travel. That was demanded in March. Same with calls on closing the border. In fact the current Secretary of State for Scotland along with the former Secretary of State for Scotland and also the Tory leader of the English registered Tories in Scotland all said there is no border.

To cheer everyone up look at the recovered percentage in England and compare that to the Scotland number. Seemingly it was 4.6% recovered in England and 67% in Scotland. So even if the R number is higher and more people are infected there's still a much greater chance of recovery in Scotland compared to England.

Just for a laugh maybe look up the £129m contracts put out to tender last week for NHS in England by the Tories as it's being privatised even more right in front of your eyes but don't forget to clap. Once it's gone it's gone and they'll bring in the American system.

I'd also say that if you think it's the best thing to get out for a drive just remember that if you get this thing in England and end up in hospital there's a really high chance that you will die. Especially if you're put on a ventilator.

On the plus side there might be a few decent Z4's going cheap when they're being sold by grieving partners so fill yer boots! Can we ask that you leave your logon details for the forum with someone to let us all know it's for sale and pass on info about anything that's been done to your car, receipts etc.

On our local northeast & Cumbria news at 6.30pm they interviewed Cumbria Police who said they did not want people travelling to the Lakedistrict cos Cumbria is a high risk area. I think the police that area will be on high alert at the weekend so for the time being I’ll be avoiding it

Yes no doubting the Cumbrian police were livid after last nights announcements , i'm currently working near Ullswater & driving up this morning the main topic on local radio Cumbria was what the coming weekend will be like , along with the head of tourism & the police commissioner both were desperate to prevent people travelling there but at the same time seemingly powerless should those who do keep to the rules .
Currently none of the rural car parks or toilet facilities are open so unless you are within a hour drive its going to be hard to offer any real arguement for why you would be there if you do get stopped .

I’m a simple guy and it’s simple to me and to many others on here. We like going for a drive and enjoying our pride and joys. Do that, don’t go mental, don’t take unnecessary risks and be sensible with the distance. Enjoy the freedoms given to us by those who gave theirs over 75 years ago. Have a drive and go home. I don’t think my Grandad would of complained about being told to stay at home with his family and not go out, in fact after losing friends fighting in Burma against the Japanese and losing family In Africa and Europe Who fought against the Nazis, when he finally did come home he Married my Grandma, God rest her soul, had my Dad and never left this island he held so dear ever again.
I’d love to get the m out the garage and let her rip, but I love my family, there’s no comparison.
Your life, your choices your freedom.
Think smart and be safe and as always....
All the best.

[/quoteAt least you’ve got a valid reason to be there. It’s a truly beautiful area. I spent many years hill walking & wild camper & I cant wait to be up there when things eventually get back to normal. I can be over there in an hour from my house.
