Glass topped Coupe anyone?

I'm soo tempted to get this and see if I can get a glass one made. I think the same shade as the privacy glass would look great.

Anyone got any contacts in the automotive glass trade?

Would be amazing, thought about this in the past after seeing sixspeed carbon roof thread..

Cool idea. It needs to be strong enough to not shatter when the body flexes so the weight could be a problem. If you've ever felt the weight of structural window panes, you'll know what I mean!

How about Lexan with a scratchproof coating?

When your done with it I might buy it off ya for my roadster / coupe hybrid project.

I bet it will cost a fortune but good luck it is a cool idea.

I think its a good idea.

I love the new SL with the glass roof.

That exact idea is actually being worked on by a member on Zpost. He's planning to sell them. He's currently finishing up a carbon fibre version and then this acrylic "moonroof". More info here http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=525116

Thanks - have to keep an eye on this for his prices.

It is just a panel tho, does it add much structural strength? Its literally just siliconed in from looking at six speeds thread, but the overhang to place the panel in is quite deep so It would need some work around or you would see the bare metal, then the roof lining. Big job.

If the glass loses all structural rigidity in a crash / roll, i.e. by shattering or even just deforming like a windscreen, then surely you may as well be in a roadster without roll bars ? I'd have thought the roof gives quite a lot of the structural strength given the coupe was developed from the roadster, or is the chassis totally different ?

I've spoken to a glass costing company I supply with paint, when I go in to see them on Monday he's going to give me a link to a company that manufacture curved glass, I'll post it up when I have it.

Thanks - I've approached a couple on spec but no responses yet. At the moment it's an interesting exercise in viability, but you never know.
