glass fell off my wing mirror!

looks like a paper thin piece of plastic lines the mirror plate not sure if I should peal this away or not it snaps away quite easily like.. a large fish food flake.

If you mean the black covering to the wing mirror, then suggest you leave as this is the face of the heated plate.

This thread is worrying...my mirrors both shake like crazy when I listen to music.

Might just be that your eyes are loose. Would get them seen to. ;)

Tapatalking...

My driver's side one fell out at Sainsbury's petrol station this morning and smashed into lots of pieces. Old man behind me commented "oooooh that's not good", which I found very helpful. Had to call the cashier to come and sweep up the pieces, and then went to local car accessories store, who phoned round 4 suppliers to get a replacement for me which should be here by 4pm this afternoon. They will also fit it for me, for the grand total of £20 ! Really grateful they can do it so fast as have a close to 400 mile round trip coming up tomorrow, which would be a bit akward without my wing mirror.

always thought you teachers had eyes in the back of your head, and as women are prescient anyways (at least, my OH seems able to predict when I'm going to do something daft....) am sure you'll be fine

Luckily all fixed, but after mirror broke, friend fell out with me, I lost front door keys and as I couldn't get in cleaned car for first time since it had paintwork fixed, and discovered one bit of paintwork is not right... *sigh*

Noticed my driver's side was vibrating a little & having noticed this thread earlier in the day - stopped and gave mirror a small tug & it came straight off.
Fixed with a bit of hotglue for now - seems OK.

So pre-warned by this forum I was able to save my self the expense of buying a replacement glass.

Thanks guys.

Thought I'd noticed vibration in my driver side mirror recently, just wish I'd seen this thread...

Currently in Dublin, had a 5p odd a litre fuel voucher to use up before I went away so on Wednesday I went out to the car, as I opened the door the mirror fell off and smashed on the drive.

Gonna have to get a replacement sorted when I'm back, and check the other one!

First problem I've had with the zed in a years driving - not sure it's right for a mirror to be shaken off after 19k miles but never mind.

My mirror dropped off and smashed going around a roundabout last night. I still had the heating element intact. I ordered a ebay mirror only at 4pm yesterday from other end of country . It came
today at 9.30 am. Free p&p £7.50. I will use some silicone sealant between the pads supplied. Hopefully all will fit on and the heating part still work.

Lost my wing mirror on the M62 yesterday... drivers side... made the return journey home difficult..

am I right thinking all Z4 wing mirror's are heated..?? but if so why do they sell either heated nor non heated..?? confused. :?

I was extremely lucky, driving to gf's house and each time I accelerated I noticed the glass in the wing mirror was lifting up, opened the window and basically caught it as it fell off.

reattached both sides with industrial silicon..they are never coming off now

Just spotted mine was vibrating....so pulled it off before it smashed to the ground...now to find some glue!

I've noticed my OS glass vibrating. Have to say glue seems to be a pretty shoddy method of fixing the glass on. With my Fiesta the heater element and mirror are one sealed piece that clip on to the part that adjusts. And £15 new from the dealer...

Okay, iv just replaced my wing mirror glass and heating element with replacements I found on ebay. Fitted them and drove to the shops. Iv just put my hand on them and nearly burnt my frikin hand, surely that cant be safe!

This just happened to me too, quite a surprise as I was only doing about 30mph. The garage I bought the car from had given me a 1 year warranty but said this isn't covered and wanted about £120 for parts+fitting. Once I picked my jaw up from the floor I thought I'd go to the experts - Z4-Forum!

Saw the link to this a few pages back, is it decent enough quality?

Bought similar ones with heat plate. First couple of days you could have easily have boiled an egg on it. But now its just right. :-P

mine fell off too. velcro on both surfaces and its back on! I must say that build quality of these cars is pants! there is always something going wrong/misting up/falling off. I just sold my merc B180 with 198000 miles with no major faults, far better quality car. I love my Z but it does annoy me how BMW get away with producing some of the faults that they do. :headbang: there you go, rant over.

Mine was wobbling a little at speed, but at speed I couldn't safely look at it to be sure.

Just drove into town & couldn't have been more wobbly, or less attached...it literally took the lightest of prod with my finger to remove it.

Sticky pad session for me tomorrow!
