glass fell off my wing mirror!

Which side fell off. The drivers side fell off whilst I owned it with an eBay replacement put on. That was well over a year ago!

If it was the drivers side you have just replaced, then that confirms that the ebay one is pants!

I used the following company
http://www.incarshop.co.uk/acatalog/BMW_Z4_Door_Mirror_Glass_and_Wing_Mirror_Glass.html
mirror was good quality and very sticky

i was out on a blatt earlier 30 miles from home & all of a sudden i get the dreaded "wing mirror wobble" on my passenger side , no warning , its been fine the last 3k miles ive owned the car .
i pulled over & sure enough it was loose enough to get my fingers behind , not wanting to go home i came up with a temporary fix  Fudge ! i had to half chew it then molded it to hold the mirror in place & 120 miles later when i got home its still there
So always keep some fudge in the glovebox

Either that or auto dipping exterior mirrors, as they don't seem to suffer from this issue

This happened to me today also. Driving along and it just flew off and smashed behind me :| now to replace asap as so annoying not having the mirror...

When i replaced mine, I recreated the plastic lip in the auto-dipping mirrors by using sugru (some here), and carefully beaded it around the edges. Repeated it for the driver side (that didn't start wobbling), making sure it didn't look hashed (or perhaps, fudged is now the proper word ;)) but more stock.

So this just happened!

There seems to be a flexible membrane and no exposed wires, so guess I just need the glass and not the option with the heating element?

Thats correct, you just need the glass and to stick it onto that surface. It's happened to me twice now.

Hm i'm now suffering this too - i wasn't aware i had heated mirrors (i have no specific button for it). Luckily it happened whilst parked so the glass just fell and smashed by the car - i only noticed because i couldnt referse out of my space with 'incredibly blurry passenger mirror' (read: no mirror).

Anyone able to recommend the right glass? I assume all E85/E86 mirrors are the same size/shape? Is there any value in ordering from BMW?

I bought my replacement mirror glass from here:
It comes with a very sticky 'peel off' back

Why the hell would a supposedly prestige motor company like 'BMW' incorporate continuous heated wing mirrors in their vehicles regardless of season and totally unable to turn them off??? IDIOTS :?

I thought they were temperature dependant - Ie the heating elements go open circuit when it's warm?
Ie the power is always available the heating element/material .

No, they are on the whole time you are driving and regardless of weather. That's why the glue dries out and the bloody glass drops off!!

When we get a lovely summers' day one day in July, take your Z for a spin, park under a tree, then touch your wing mirror. CAREFUL, don't burn your hand!!!!!!!!!!

I thought they only came on when you put the heated rear window on.
