Glad I bought the warranty

So I left the car with Dick Lovett in Swindon while on a business trip. Just had a call:

For the sticky steering a new steering rack is on order. Part costing £1500.

For PDC, two sensors in individual paint ordered at about £130 or so each I think

I don't think I'll complain at the £100 excess. I'm definitely in credit based on that bill and that excludes labour!

Seriously relieved and not unconvinced I won't be back for a steering column later...

Bingo heres a story for all the warranty nay sayers.

Not quite as bad but ive had £1500 worth of parts since ive had mine not including labour is a must for me.

Pays for itself, stupid annoying things cost a lot to fix. Mines an AUC warranty tho no excess.

It'll be about another 10 years before the warranty company gets back what they've paid out

I noticed that BMW dealer had noted my warranty and excess on the work sheet before they took my car in for service on Monday.

Had my warranty three years so far and haven't claimed once!!!! Car is far too reliable. :) I agree though it's usually worth having as sooner or later something will go 'pop' and the parts/labour costs quickly rack up.

I shall be renewing. You have to give them a chance to win their money back!

I think I'll document all the costs of acquiring #69 and all the work done plus what's been recovered for my own interest and to keep with her paperwork in case I ever have to move her on. Might make an interesting thread too...

How much has the warranty cost in total over the lifetime of the car?

Has been good for me also- Over £2000 last year with new roof mechanism and cover and then another new cover!- several hundre dpounds this year in seals and hoses. I seem to have a very good dealer which has also been a benefit! (now renewed for another year at around £420 - no excess but no roadside cover)

The warranty cost me £980 in December. First year of ownership so I'm definitely in the black on this one. I've spent about £1000 on fettling so far I think

Thing is as well is that they only get older and will go wrong at some point its the gamble you take. Plus you dont know how they were driven when they were bought new.

That's true. Mine was owned by a retired guy who knew what he had but never pushed it. When he took me for a test drive with him as pilot in command he put his foot down and scared himself. He was the second owner, the first was only the owner for about 6 months as far as I can see. I'm not planning on selling her, so not worried about spending a little money to get her exactly as I want her

Quick update and correction

Just collected #69 and it's the steering column and not the rack they've ordered. The person telling me it was the rack made a mistake with the message but get this...

Steering column - £1650
2x Parking sensors in Alpina Blue II - £224

Plus vat plus labour!

Holy sheet batman!

Do any of you guys know what the stand is with mods and the warranty extended cocver, also do u need to keep a FBMWSH?

It states this in the terms but dont know how strict they are?

I muh prefer an Indie Service for my 6 yr old car.
