Getting wheels off

Yesterday I was toying with the idea of painting my brake calipers so I thought I'd pull a wheel off to take a look at what I'd be dealing with. I jacked the car up and removed the lug nuts. I went to pull the wheel off the hub and to my surprise I couldn't. I tried breaking the wheel loose by hitting it with the palms of my hands and even kicking it a few times but it wouldn't budge. I figured my next move was to get a block of wood and a heavy hammer and try to hit it from the backside of the tire. I was a little short on time so I just reinstalled the lug nuts and desided to deal with it when I had more time. So, before I go whacking at it, are there any tips I should know that might make things go a little easier? :?

Common Problem, do a search and you will find a few suggestions such as lossening bolts slightly and driving car very short distance.

Just remember when you put them back on put a very small amount of grease on the diameter (not the face where the bolts go) of the hub this should help in future.

Another thing to try is loosening all the wheel nuts a few turns and then lowering the jack so the wheel takes the cars weight. This can sometimes pop it loose

When putting back use a wire brush to loosen any corrosion on the hub and lightly apply some copper clip around the central hole of the wheel and on the mating faces. That should minimise the chances of it getting stuck again :)
