Getting the old girl remapped... I should have learned my lesson by now...

It's just software, all easily recoverable in the right hands Maniac. But you may want to stress to them that if they don't have experience with recovery, send it to someone who does.

Oh!
That's not nice - it'll just need a re prog I'm sure.
Hopefully if it comes to that, they will shoulder the responsibility as I think they should have disabled anything that could possibly upset the install?

Even simple PC installs and upgrades often instruct to close all other programs.

Lots of info in thread below.

You could even use MHD and your phone (as I am) to do a full write.

If you want I can put you in touch with wedge performance in the USA who do custom flashes for Cobb and MHD. I'm sure he would assist with instructions.

Hope the call was not one of those accident management companies calls ...

Hopefully they'll sort it :)

I had similar when I took my 2 week old 118d in for a remap - the guys bricked the ECU and it took them all day to sort it out. However they managed it and all was fine after that :)

Now thats not so good...

I wonder what they actually mean by that.... I doubt they will have a dedicated test rig for that DME. But they may have a chip reader that not communicating, you can try different methods though...

Failing that........I think that a visit to a main dealer with DME reinstalled and see if the car could have the latest software installed. This may or may not work, depending on the protocol..

Failing that.....New DME and programming i suspect.

I have a new c class Merc as my daily but the Z is my baby. It's just been today they've worked on it so maybe there's hope. IME this should have been easy.

The very latest is that they can't access the chip at all and they've tried everything. I had a call from the chap that did the work today, who wants to come back now that the units been powered down for some time and try to flash the unit again. Failing that it'll probably be taken to a BMW technician who will then attempt to refresh it. Failing that is entirely new DME from BMW at a cost of nearly £1200.

He stated that he wants me to pay half of the costs if there are any other than his attempt to reflash on his own. I wasn't particularly happy about that, as I don't feel that I was forewarned sufficiently that taking a call on my mobile phone would result in a dead car. However I'm happy to let him proceed and try whenever he needs to do in order to try and get this resolved. at the point that there are costs I'll talk to him again.

I honestly dont see why you should have to pay anything.

He offered a service,it failed..

It should not be at your expense.

Is this the first time he has ever encountered a failure in the process?

Completely agree. If you had paid for a mechanic to do a physical mod on your engine and that mod went wrong and your engine implodes you would expect them to put it right and cover your out of pocket expenses (such as a hire car). I honestly don't see how this any different there the so called professionals here not you.
Whats the name of the outfit again so the rest of us know to avoid them!
