Get thee top off...

Well yesterday mostly consisted of cleaning both cars inside and out, cutting both lawns and general housekeeping duties and today has mostly consisted of being stuck in the office due to an deadline tomorrow evening.

I was getting fed up of missing out on this niceish weather we've had over the weekend with my newly acquired coupe with a folding roof and at 4pm decided that enough was enough. Detailing some architectural greatness could wait for a couple of hours . The lady was informed to be ready in 20mins. We were off out for a drive!.

Stumbled across some lovely country roads on the outskirts of Doncaster so took the opportunity to take a few snaps. iPhone only though I'm afraid as its all I had on me.

Thought you might appreciate some top down ones showing off my walnut... Especially you KeithJ

Also in the space of 20mins had to perform 2 emergency stops one for a stupid oncoming van In the middle of the road and the other for a stupid oncoming baby rabbit in the middle of the road. One thing I noticed on both occasions is the hazards started flashing. Quite a cool feature I thought that the e85/86 never had..

Anyway here you go :)

Thanks for looking.

The e85/e86 had a two stage brake light pattern, the second stage kicked in on hard braking... the e89 uses the hazards...

My mates T plate Pug 406 used to do the same with the hazards on hard braking. Being young and irresponsible, they kicked on very often during "normal" enthusiastic driving...

I love getting out in the country with the girlfriend and getting the top down. Havent taken pictures yet though.

looking very good John...hope the baby rabbit was shown more tolerance than the van driver...i was coming home the other night and was practically forced off the road by a girl in a navy blue E89, very nice car, i've seen it in my village.

feeling your pain today, i too was stuck in the office a lot longer than i wanted to be...i had big plans that were scuppered, first properly sunny day of the year i think. :(

Two stage braking is a stupid idea as non BMW drivers won't know what it means. Hazards are a much better idea.

Nice pics thanks for sharing! -tbh with the rabbit incident, ive heard small animals like that act much the same as a brick would at speed
Ive tried 'heavy' braking in mine in the garage but dont seem to have the 2 tier braking system, was it an extra?

You wouldn't want to hit them if you can avoid them Andy - I've hit pigeons, pheasants, owls, rabbits and deer over the years (note to self: stop driving in the fields...) Pigeons tend to pop, cause a mess but little damage. Pheasants break spoilers/lips/grills, rabbits the same. Deer, however, take out the whole wing, headlight and bonnet!

My sister managed to hit a sheep in a capri at around 40mph - wrote the car off!

I bet the sheep was none too happy either!

Thanks for the kind words people. I have to admit it feels good to have the top down again. Having the folding metal roof gives you the feeling of both coupe and roadster. What's not to love :)

I knew the E85/86 had the brake force display but thought I had read in the manual with the e89 the brake lights flashed under emergency braking such as Mercedes. Must have read it wrong!

I agree though the flashing hazards is a much better way of alerting people to you burying the brake pedal :)
