Oil Pressure Sender Install

This was a two step process.
The spare oil port is at the back, behind the OE oil pressure switch.

Since the space at the back is limited & the OE pressure switch is smaller than the new pressure sender,
I relocated the OE switch to the back port & installed the new pressure sender in the front port.

The threads for these ports are M12 1.5 straight (not tapered)

The biggest challenge I had was installing the sender adapter.
The adapter is a 90° port adapter so that there is more room for the sender.
The challenge was to get the port oriented in the right direction with the fitting tightened.

In the manufacturing process, it's completely random how the threads are cut & the direction of the port will be different for every block.

I was fortunate that I had a selection of machined sealing washers of varying thickness (luck.. not good planning)

This is the result....

18 inch stainless braded hose with M8 x 1.25 banjo on one end and a fixed 1/8 NPT female on the other £25 from Hel performance, gauge reads 10 to 16 psi at idle and up to 70 psi on high rpm
 
Alfa those readings are low. Probably due to the location of the take off. BMWs own data shows the readings should be near the below figures, drop Simpson Motorsport a call for confirmation if need be.

BMW s54b32 in later form, sees 18-20 psi HOT idle Around 50psi COLD start....

80 (ish) psi. Hot on high loads.

35-45 ish HOT on everyday driving.

The STOCK low oil pressure light is set to light up at 10psi so unless your dash top light is on, those readings are out slightly. Bare in mind that stock dummy light is set painfully low so to be getting reading in that region is wrong.

Could their be air in the braided line??? Don't even know if that's possible.

the oil specs were different for the earlier s54s used int he z3s, i think they were limited to 60psi.

these specs were given to me by simpson motorsport... a quick search it seems about right??

I looked up the pressure in the TIS and it says 0.7 bar at hot idle
I thought it low from other cars but 0.7 is 10.1 psi
I'm typically seing 16 psi at idle which is 1.1 bar 60 psi at normal driving and 70 psi at full rpm
Just confirm the engine designation for an 06 M engine

Air in the pipe is a possibility
 
All your pressures seems bang on bar the idle, I think the figures your quoting are for the earlier s54s which ran lower oil pressure and a regulated cap to 60 psi top end.

Could very well be air in the line maybe??? Simpson even set an alarm in my car UNDER 17 psi....

My car is a 2007 with 11k miles, with an extra oil cooler which typically LOOSES a little pressure. I see pretty much see what you see but hot idle is around 19psi, plus around 5psi more top end.

Could very well be difference in the take off location???? Slightly interrupted vs full pressure location maybe??

Either way looks like you'll get the warnings you need in a bad situation.
 
On the way into work this morning i had the following once the engine was fully warm
idle 17 to 20 psi
normal driving 57 to 63
High RPM 73 to 80
i would say its air in the pipe as it seems to be getting better (or closer to your numbers) so perhaps its self bleeding as i run it longer

i will keep my eye on it for a few weeks but as i said im not 100% bothered on actual numbers more a benchmark to keep my eye on.
Water is keeping to around 73 c and up to 80 c if i have been driving hard

That is pretty much perfect according to Simpson . I agree numbers will vary from each car, a bench mark for your car is much more important.
 
Seems stable at the last reported numbers, took it for a 400 mile trip over the weekend so it's likely this is how it will be
