Garage Recommendation for you in Bristol/SW area...

Before I owned my Z4's, I had a Skoda Octavia vRS, I had a trusted garage I could take it too and was very happy with their service. When I got my Z4 roadster, I wanted to find a good BMW Indy in the Bristol area. Ended up going to Clayton Cars but really wasn't impressed with their attitude, price or service.

After buying my MC, I needed to sort a few little things, of which the only tasks I couldn't manage myself was installing rear springs and rear brake discs/pads. So I thought I'd give this place a try:

The guy who owns and runs this place is called James. He is BMW mad, he carries out a variety of work from building M3 cars for the track to an oil service. He really knows his stuff and enjoys a good chat about cars in general. He must only be about 30 but has a wealth of knowledge about BMW's, especially the S54 engine. He is quite busy and is usually booked up for a month which says something, it's a small place and he works there on his own. Labour was £50 an hour, but things like the paste on the brakes he didn't charge me for and put high temperature stuff on too. He gave the car a once over, hooked it up to diagnostics, quick clean, cover on seat, steering wheel and mat etc.

There was another heavily modified Z4 there, having xenon balast done, anyone on here? Was silver 3.0si with quad conversion, aero skirts, Hamann front bumper...

Anyways, just thought I'd recommend this guy as I hate taking my car to a garage but this place fills me with confidence that it will be looked after, fair price and fixed by a real enthusiast. There is nothing in this for me doing this write up, just thought other local owners would appreciate having somewhere decent and safe to take their pride and joy too. Why go to Dick Lovett?! Seriously if you don't believe me take a drive to Redish and you'll see what I mean :driving:

He's the only person I let near my car for services and repairs.
Reset my airbag light a couple of weeks ago without an appointment and didn't even want to charge me.

Hi Alex,

Many thanks for the kind words and great write up!
(Just for the record, I didn't ask Alex to do this).

It was great to work on your Z4 M Coupe. Glad you were happy with the results.

Here's some pictures of the work if you're interested......

Rear brake pads were not sliding on the caliper carrier correctly due to corrosion, so were transferring a non-flush contact patch on the brake disc (hence corrosion in the centre rotor):

Caliper carrier's importantly cleaned free of flaking powder-coat, rust, brake pad debris, dust etc:

High temp brake paste applied so the brake pads are able to slide with no resistance (more advanced than copper-slip):

Installed (genuine BMW rear brake discs, rear pads, rear sensor):

Your rattle from the rear was a broken rear coil spring (very common):

Rectified with genuine BMW coil springs (pair):

All sorted and ready for collection:

Finally, your E86 made a friend whilst it was at Redish Motorsport:

Thanks again for your business Alex, it's much appreciated.

Have a great wedding and hopefully I'll see the Z4 again in the future.

Best regards,
James :D

Hi James, I'll be in touch before the service is due in November, it's only done 39k on a 2003 and has been BMW Serviced up to now but I'm considering trying an Indi now it's 9 years old. I'll send you a note of the schedule to date and you can advise on what's required and your pricing,
Cheers :)

Need I say anymore?! How many garages do this?? Top guy, great work but reasonable prices, must avoid buying bits/upgrades/mods now I know someone who can fit them etc! Awesome pictures of my car too even if I do say so myself! Anyone know whose Z4C with Hamann bumper that was?? Looking at the car he/she is obviously a petrol head, would be surprised if not a member on here...
