Garage Queen or Winter User?

Wife's away with work, so bearing in mind the weather warning of snow/frost/wind I took the A5 Quattro on winter tyres into work and was hugely disappointed to find the weather was fine! (for cars if not aeroplanes - leaving LHR on the crosswind limit was not pleasant).

Much as I love our 595c, sitting in a big comfy heated seat with 6Music playing through a B&O set up with the best part of 600miles range in the tank was making the little fiat look like stupid decision.

I took the Zed out last week simply to give it a run as it was dry and all I got from the experience was the feeling that there is no car to replace this thing. It is simply awesome. the last of the best of the N/A engines in a hard little uncompromising chassis. Simply wonderful.

So. sadly because of the layout of our garage/driveway the Zed is becoming a low mileage car 2007/40,000miles, but it get's warmed up, driven properly, and although it isn't constantly polished, it looks smart for it's age, drives like a new car. If I can afford to keep it, I will, forever.

But the drive to work in my wife's hugely competent A5 has reminded me of the compromises of driving (albeit hugely exciting version of) a.... Fiat. It's been great over the summer, but as the temperatures fall, so will my love for the Abarth, I fear.

Jonny, the M54 IS bullet proof! I've been running on LPG for last 50k and it's still as good as new! Original clutch, no issues with the gearbox - the chassis and running gear are bang on! The only issues are the interior etc. I've got a few rattles, the door handles are very temperamental (been quoted £250 per side to fix) and the main key seems to not hold a charge very well!

As much as I love my Z, I think I will end up buying an E93 330d this year as I am getting a bit old to be doing all these miles in an out and out sports car!

Quite right, actually, forget the spec, all the n/a straight 6 engines of various 2.5/3.0 formats were bloody lovely, smooth and a generation ahead of the competition. Post 2001, the 330Ci had 265hp rather than my weak 235hp, but it felt like a very quick car .

Bought mine as a cheap replacement while I save for a house. Used in all weathers and I can't afford to have two cars so don't have a choice! I definitely don't have as high opinion of the car as many of you but then I'm on a Z4 forum so I guess the real zealots will be here :poke:

Mine is a bit of an oddball as it is used more in the winter for commuting, as I tend to cycle to work 80% of the time in the warmer months. In the warmer months the Zed is mainly used for fun. It is garaged all year round when not in use though.

must be a mad mexican dog then as i have 2 sports cars and both would get used as daily drives if i could. biggest issue would be deciding which one to take :D

Very serious garage envy  .

Mine gets driven all year long albeit only when dry and sunny. I have 2 others to use so the Z is kept for when I need cheering up

Daily driver all year round. I ended up in a Z4 by accident, Porsche messed me around with a 981S order so I bought the best car available with the deposit I had on that car which ended up being a Z4. Good fun daily on my 10 mile commute.

Had a fun drive (roof down country lanes) in the M today. It's now a bit dirty but sports cars are for driving/enjoyment and its too mainstream to be considered an investment.

Not yet anyway and definitely not if its just a bog standard car. The M's maybe. I guess there will always be collectors etc that will want unmolested originals.

Definitely not a garage queen as I have no garage!
Saying that now I have a better daily driver I am more selective about using it in grotty conditions - I want to enjoy the Z4 for as long as I can.

Hardtop on this time of year (no garage) but it's my only car so used all year round, don't commute by car anymore though :).
