G29 manual

£68k is mad for any toy but there are plenty low milage around for half that which is less mad?, personally I never rated the Boxter, there are plenty of cheap Boxters and take your chances on maintenence costs, a 911 I would have as a company car but my accountant is more realistic,

BMW make a lot of performance choices, many buyers choose a 4 seater, performance and more practical, I already have a practical daily drive, I wanted a good looking 2 seater roadster toy, easy to live with and local dealer service. BMW service is better than most, because of the tech keeping it in warranty seems the best way to maintain it, so far the G29 is holding its value well.

i am surprised manuals are less desirable, i feel there are always purists that would always go for a manual (the pricing seems to prove it though). I wanted a manual but they were not easy to find in the spec i wanted, in hindsight i love the auto.

I'm told the "Frozen" paints are a quite high maintenance / have to be considered more with washing - is this the case? It's currently the only option in the UK.

I have a Frozen Orange M40i and yes I was of the same opinion when I was looking at the purchase, But I soon found out that it is one of THE easiest colours of car to look after, Just dont scratch it, or stone chip it...[ Mine has been matt ppf,d since I bought it.]... Oh and use specific detailing products, which are now readily available.... DO NOT attempt to polish it....

On the green colour, it wouldnt be my first choice, or any choice for that matter....Pity its not currently available in any other colour.

That said, the auto box , when used in manual is FABULOUS.

Recently did a "sedate" track day in mine, and it was superb..... :driving:  :driving:

Boxster and Boxster S yes they are still great cars, but the Spyder, GT4 and GTS all have the full fat 4.0 engine and is probably one of the finest road/track range of cars that has ever been made.

I had a 987 3.2 and I didn't get on with it, my dad has a 981 Boxster GTS and it is lovely but again with 340hp it doesn't set your hair alight because the chassis is so good, it is a delight to drive quickly on a/b roads. I don't like the predicability of the platform but when you throw 400hp at it like the 3 above they are much more portent sportscars they certainly play with the bigger boys and are very capable at pretty much everything and have guises for track, GT fast road and combo of both.

The G29 doesn't come close to these but that being said even at 70K its significantly less than these new.

That's the thing, BMWs have always depreciated like rocks no idea why people would drop that money on one. The G29 is no different, pre pandemic they M40s were like 18-24 months old and around 30k just awful depreciation.

Its a buyers market for used cars at the mo and getting into something in the dream space is more achievable than ever especially if you are a cash buyer and can avoid they high borrowing rates.

I think that's it the "purist" view is manual and I agree 100% but the fact is that these cars were designed to be hooked up to autos and they are just so good. The manuals have become more of an afterthought and they just don't mate as well. Plus the automations on manuals like auto heel and toe literally drives me insane completely saps the joy out of owning one. I had it in my mini JCW and you couldn't turn it off, it got stolen and replaced it with an auto and it is more suited to the car. Although even in manual mode in sport the auto will take back over and head back up the gears to save fuel which is very annoying.

In a naturally aspirated car manual all day I think the turbo cars suit the autos.
