G29 manual

I'd love to know what this whole green car issue is. It goes back decades doesnt it?! Something about them being unlucky??

Having done the majority of my driving on the West Coast of Scotland I was always led to believe it was something to do with green cars blending into the background not being seen easily by cars overtaking etc, my dad point blank refused to have a green car for this very reason.

I've read articles suggesting green cars tend to blend into rural environments - Red, Orange or Yellow are more likely to stand out. Or maybe Purple.

For me...frogs, grass and peas (frozen or not) should be green. Cars should not!

Nothing to do with superstition; they're just fugly.

It does it for me as I am so tempted by the San Remo green but the price and the additional first year road tax of £1095 is just out of my comfort zone at the moment

There are some good "incentives" at the moment..
First year road tax paid in full (~£1600) and if you can prove you own any other BMW, there is an additional £1500 off (I think that ends 31st July). Theres around £5k off the "retail" price on BMW's website, but I think is crazy the manual is a ~£5k option over auto!

Then, there could be a bit of a deal to be done based on my discussion for some additional discount. Finance on new (not many used of these about, ive seen one!) is around 4.9% which I dont think is toooooo bad.

If you want the salesman's details let me know, he was actually really good, no nonsense or games - nice bloke.

But why does that rear plate say "BMW Z4M" - it isn't an M

Yea, maybe it should say "M Sport", do the still use that term? Maybe they missed 40i off the end?

The Auto is claimed to be 0.4 seconds quicker to 62mph, but I doubt the Manual will be.

Yep, from what I've read it is slightly slower but arguably more "fun and engaging experience"? :fuelfire: :D
What is the total sum of the discounts I.e. how much to put a manual on the road and do they give you extra discount for being brave enough to order this green

There's a discount ending today for the BMW Loyalty thing but I think with everything you could get this for £56k, tomorrow though probably £57.5k unless BMW extend the loyalty date.

Thats from stock though, not a custom order. I have the guy's details if anyone wants them.

Here is the spec and details. If I remember rightly, the extra £1500 loyalty discount is only available if you finance (PCP or HP) and the 4.9% is only on new vehicles like this one.

looks amazing and i would love one. no chance of that though as i cant afford one. Anyway i am thinking of getting a new bike next year so a new Z is a long way down the list (particularly one for over £50k )

Hang tight if you really want one. They can't sell them! They will down to a tenner by January.

The vast majority of BMW buyers don't want a manual, and the rest wouldn't want a green one!
I bought a manual F31 3 series recently. It took me ages to find a good one, as they are as rare as hens' teeth. It was also around 30% cheaper than the equivalent auto (which there were millions to choose from).

Yep they may well! It will be interesting to see if they retain value because there are less of them in manual and people want them specifically.. or, they drop MORE because people dont even want them used??

I'm predicting 20k depreciation over 2 years but could vary on above.. thoughts?

I love my Z4 Coupe Manual and would want a manual again - I would have expected more people to want a manual in a Z4 from the outset but as they've only just done it, I must be wrong!

Argyll Andy looked at this..ignoring the green aspect the manual version depreciates more than the auto..and it costs more…

As for the green… :fuelfire:

Hopefully they ignore the colour in the depreciation prediction..otherwise it will look like a Stuka dive bomber.. :tumbleweed:

As for the green

Are you holding out for a yellow M40i? :D

I'm told the "Frozen" paints are a quite high maintenance / have to be considered more with washing - is this the case? It's currently the only option in the UK.

I looked at the G29….i guess when there was a small spark of interest AND there had been some ‘nice’,colours I could have been tempted…

The G29 in stock form is superior to any E89 or E85 in stock form…in terms of handling, probable reliability, speed, acceleration , comfort, toys, etc

But ..I just don’t love the body style ..it’s lack of separation from other BMWs in terms of styling etc..

So for me it’s a big no..

You sure about the depreciation? If you look at the Porsches, the manual ones have a massive uplift over the auto boxes.

Every time I see a beautiful 993 at a decent price it is because it is an auto :|

Have you seen the same vehicle at Lloyds in Cockermouth?

I am holding back a little and see if they sell the San Remo one they have in Newcastle. As previously suggested green much like Thunder Night is very much a marmite colour. Even though the BMW offer ends soon, I suspect if they don't sell they know I am interested so there will be offers to be had. I know they are also keen to have my car which I suspect they have a buyer for.

If they sell the Green car then it wasn't meant to be and others will come along. Meanwhile I will stick with the fastest colour.

People don't want BMW manuals. They're not the same market as Porsches, or older BMWs even.

When I was considering an M4, I looked for a manual one. Rare yes, but also cheap. Private sellers couldn't give them away.

It is a shame with the B58, as that is a very special engine (could be BMW's finest ever across the board) and deserves to be used properly with a manual gearbox. Just don't think the G29 Z4 is the car for it TBH (especially in that God awful colour).

Poor chap, didn’t realise you were colour blind. Your ginge is not a shade of red, which is the true fastest colour :poke:

Agreed that B58 is just an amazing engine, at 70mph its doing just 1800rpm the torque is just nuts for a petrol engine, it’s quick in comfort mode, in sport mode it’s crazy, but it ain’t a Porsche 911. It’s a very good front engine roadster, my alternative was an FType, the G29 has more modern tech and a great engine, it does everything well, the ZF 8 speed auto suits it well, very fast changing

68k.. seems mad to me but each to their own.

Granted buying new there isnt loads of options at this price point but I would be looking at a lot of other options over one of these for that money.

Boxster spyders aren't much more atm... or a GT4... a Boxster/Cay gts 4.0. Hell if you really want to jump in deep nice 360s are this kind of money. All of these will hold their value and are better sports cars.

The Z is nice but apart from having 2 seats and a convertible there's not much experience difference to driving a 4 series that's why I can't get on board. I actually like the way they look but it's just not worth that money when there are so many amazing cars you can have for that money. Obviously removing things like warranty and the fact it's new, they just aren't special enough to warrant that amount IMO.

You could have a fleet of classic M cars for that money. Or even the best of every gen of Z4 considering you can get a G29 with less than 20k miles for around 30k, Z4M coupes are around 20k atm and E89 35IS are cheap too. Maybe it's just me, buying these over inflated cars just doesn't appeal regardless if its a manual... The manual in the Z4M isnt great in fact not many M cars are renowned for having great gearboxes they are like dull instruments compared to a Porsche which is like a bolt action rifle. The BMW autos are I think a selling point, just because its a manual doesn't mean its a great experience and these twin turbo motors were designed for the auto box and the combo is arguably better.
