Fuel pump

Hello people, How easy is it to replace the fuel pump on an E85 2.2i. I'm assuming that it's broken as when I turn on the ignition it makes a load droning noise for a few seconds and them carries on when I start the engine. :( Pelican Parts gives it a 5 star difficulty rating and looking at the "how to do" I think it's beyond me. Just hoping it looks worse than it is. Thank you, Mike.

@Liam22 just did the one on his son's car (@Max Crilly), so he can give you the most up to date advice.

I refitted my petrol tank on Friday, and to access the fuel pump you need to remove the exhaust. This isn't hard (assuming the exhaust isn't rusted), but you'd need to be confident.

It's the same as this guide for the M versions. I don't agree it's a 5* job, personally, but probably best not to start if you're not confident imo as it's an ubdrivable car if it goes wrong

It's easy enough I didn't bother replacing my functional fuel pump preemptively before refitting the tank, which I would have done if it was going to be a nightmare.

Thank you Triggerfish, I hadn't read the 'how to do' closely enough, it's beyond my skill set.:(

@MikeyH - if you're getting it done then probably worth getting the rear brake pipes checked while they're under there with the access to change them.
Yes, thank you I will.

They're very likely to be past their best if they are the originals. My 2006 car is going in to get them replaced tomorrow. :(

Took me 3 goes to get it right!

First time the float (fuel level sensor) got stuck so didn't show anything on the fuel gauge.
Second time I didn't reattach one of the internal fuel lines correctly so it was just spraying fuel around the tank (and no start). This was *after* I had refitted the exhaust!
Third time I got it right.

Race car has started throwing fuel pump codes after running dry so I reckon I'll get it right first time on that!
