Fuel..how high will it go?

I remember going to the ‘Ring one year in the M5, when the fuel prices were really high.

After conversion from € to £ it worked out about a £150 fill…and I did that twice a day for 3 days :P

Was talking to 'management' today and was thinking that as locally Diesel is 15p a litre more expensive than petrol we may be nearing the point where it's cheaper to run the Z4 than the 120d, even allowing for the disparity in mpg.
I don't know what the zeds got on the latest NC500 run, but I averaged 45.7mpg over my whole 1300+ mile trip in the 320D - there's no way my Z4MC would have got even half of that (driving in the same manner of course) :P

I managed 33.4 over the whole 1160 ish trip and 30.1 over the actual NC500 itself. Not bad for an old 3.4 lump.

sigh, did my first £100 fill the other day in the 330d. i'm counteracting it by working from home two days a week. if it goes much higher i'll switch to working from home 3 days a week, cut my cost of commuting by another third. fortunately for me my company is heavily pushing to become carbon neutral/greener etc etc, so i dont really think they can complain.

Conversely, we've just booked return flights to Bordeaux for £12.99 each, each way. so £52 total. at this rate, rather than drive to work, i'll fly to bordeaux instead and work from there?!? :dizzy:

My next door neighbour is often taking flights to his villa in Florida for weeks at a time and working from there. Even with the time difference he still says it's worth doing it. Don't think his company knows.

I have worked for myself for many, many years and travelled an average of 12-15k miles a year. I paid for my fuel and it came out of my profits.

I used to lease diesel estate cars for 3 year terms and then give them back and lease a new one.

From 2005 to 2019, I worked out that the fuel cost in my cars always averaged out at 10-11p a mile; fuel crept up constantly over the period, but so did the fuel efficiency of the next car which always evened out.

If I were still doing the above, the cost now would be 18.9p per mile, just for fuel. An 80% increase in 3 years. :o

I know I'm getting old, but when I was 16 I used less than £1.50 of 2 star a week in my 50cc moped and it took me everywhere, everyday.

On Friday morning, filled wife's car at Tesco, Newbury, with standard unleaded @185.9p; after 45 minute shop it had jumped 5p to 190.9p. I haven't looked today... :|

Consider myself very lucky I can work from home in the main but how are taxi drivers and couriers getting through this? I guess they aren't or soon won't be

Throw in the train strikes as well it's back to the 70's, just waiting for the power cuts next :|

ABBA's comeback couldn't have come at a better time :)

Tim.
