Genuine BMW IPOD interface for a Z4. I think these sell for about £140 at BMW. As new, never used, still in box.

Only £70 :D

Now SOLD :D

Please excuse my ignorance - whats the difference between the BMW option and an Intravee?

Do you know the difference sk93 so I know what to look out for in the future? :D

BMW option very similar to Dension Icelink plus, gives you 5 playlists but no ID3 tage like dension and Intravee.

Intravee is only really any good if you have SatNav otherwise serious overkill, PVR and Andy are two Intravee owners

Exactly as Srhutch says :)

I want to bodge this into my radio, alongside the cd changer... and don't want to ruin a dension in the process :D

You will lose you CD change when you install the ipod interface. Plugs in behind the radio so it will be installed in the glove-box.
I remove one when fitting my intravee, wish I never did. I have now removed my intravee and sold it on, It was superb in my old car but when i installed it in the Z'd It keep freezing and it interfered with the telephone so i was call home at 6am which didn't go down to well.

as jan_tekin said you will loose the CD changer, not sure what you mean by the ruin a dension though, have you already got one?

I've not got one, but I didn't want to pay for something like that, and just break it.
At least with the BMW parts, I can just head to Sytner and get a replacement part for the bit I broke..

I understand it uses the same pins as the changer, but I intend to get creative with the cable connections, thus hopefully allowing me to use both at (probably) a press of a button :)

I already have a spare CD changer incase I blow mine up, so my only concern is blowing up something like an intravee or denison.
This falls nicely into the "if it blows up, it's not a majorly expensive lesson" category :D

Not to sure if thats possible, I had to remove the bmw ipod interface so that the head-unit would recognise the intravee. If you understand what i mean. When you press the Mode button it goes Radio, CD Change, CD, AUX, Radio. It will not add in an extra function. :D

I was wondering about this - have any idea how many cores the iPod adapter cable has and how many you would need to switch?

Thanks for the clarification everyone - the BMW OEM system sounds like the XCARLINK one I fitted to my Mazda. iPod charging, steering wheel control and a couple playlists but not much else. They do one for tge Z4 too:

The Intravee looks cool as I have nav but is a lot of money. Would love to fit a freeview tuner too but that looks a costly upgrade too.

Looks like three to me, but I won't say for sure till I actually read the destructions :P

for those interested, I've now got both my iPod and CD Changer working in semi-harmony.
All it takes is for one wire to be "switched" and you can choose between iPod or CD Changer :D

Basically, one of the connectors in the CD Changer is the IBUS wire. The iPod connector seems to "emulate" the cd changer's codes, which is why both cannot be on the same system.
However, the iPod system appears to work as a "slave unit", in so far as if the CD Changer code is detected on the ibus, the ipod doesn't attempt to "load" itself into the stereo... thus allowing the CD changer to work properly.
Now, by adding a SPST switch (at the moment, I have two wires that I'm twisting together :P) between the ibus cable that leads to the cd changer, I can turn "off" the cd changer, which then (after 10 seconds) allows the iPod to integrate with the stereo.
switching back to the changer is simply a case of twisting the wires back together, at which point the iPod disasociates itself from the stereo and the changer begins to work again (again.. takes 10 seconds for the stereo to realise - must be a ten sec pulse on iBus i guess).

This was all done in the company carpark during a fag break, so trust me when I say it's easier than it sounds :D
Once I get some free time at a weekend and have tested it all a bit more, I'll put together a couple of howTos.

Absolute legend - so chuffed this is possible by simply switching 1 wire. Can't wait for your how to - this has tipped me over the edge to get an Intravee now :D
