Front fog lights retro fit

Never used them on my 3.0, don't even have them on my M, don't miss them.

Totally agree with you on them being of no value and hate drivers who use them as some sort of DRL's. However I know I sidestepped that argument in my post above but if I had blanking plates I'd want to fit them with at least non working lenses for cosmetic reasons and most likley make them work simply because they are there and a feature of the bumper.

Many supercars, M cars, and E89 don't have front fog lights.

I turned them and rear fog lights on in the Polo on Wednesday evening when it was really foggy. :P

+1 not worth all the re-wiring which can get messy esp. if you don't know what you're doing like me!

Just fit the lenses for cosmetic purposes or get the M bumper (or bumber :P )

Update,

fitted the front fog lights, the loom was there alright plugged in now , just waiting for the switch and then programing, but at least it doesn't look quite so crap now :)

Result on having the loom in place

Hope you read my comment in the earlier post about the selection of the correct LCM and potential issues if you just swap out.

Hi , yes point noted thanks :!:

Hi Guys,

here's an update on the front fogs...fitted the new switch(p/n 31316953037), and got it programmed at BMW, they got the mileage tamper dot off aswell, but the fogs still didn't work, so I did a bit of trouble shooting and discovered that it needs a relay(never installed from new for good reason).

The relay(p/n 61316919113) goes at the back off the fusebox postion "R6" swapped one from another position to confirm and they work ok, just got to pick up a relay now(€13.00).

2 BMW fog lights (Ebay) €128
1 BMW switch (Ebay) €94
1 BMW relay €13
BMW programming (incl.* other stuff and code reading etc.) €150
total cost €385 :(

* other stuff BMW did, My airbag light was on , discovered that 2 airbags were fitted that didn't belong to the car ..now OK light off.
>programmed doors to lock at 5kph
>programmed ind. lights to flash when locking/unlocking
>checked faults on Pwr steering nff

overall more than expected cost wise but BMW sent it over the edge... took them 2.5 hours to do that !

don't suppose anyone wants to buy an LCM with only rear fog switch on it (p/n 61316923444)
