Front end respray or not?

This year could possibly be the last for me and the M, 4 years so far and a change could be due.

I have some nasty egg marks on the bonnet and various stone chips, my question is if I was to sell, would it be best to sell as is and get less, or have a respray.

Assuming a respray would be about £600-700, would I recoup the outlay come selling time?

As a potential buyer - id probably consider doing it myself post purchase, but i'd be much more keen to buy a car at a good price that for some money can be improved, than to buy a car that is marked up a little because the front has been resprayed. I'm not sure if that makes sense, but i guess im just saying i'd be happy with a few cosmetic marks if i got a good price - especially if paying for a full detail (which id do anyway) may solve them.

I suspect it would sell well if it was £600 cheaper than it would be in perfect condition. If you're the kinda buyer that's looking for a bargain rather than a pristine car with only 10k mileage (like me). Higher priced M's have less of an audience i guess.

Either way - lovely car - if im still looking when you sell... :)

I would say no you won't. It will in all likelihood sell quicker if it looks nicer but as others have said, a cheaper selling price may be a better option.

I wouldn't respray it...the cost to respray it will rise your selling price so there would be no benefit, it might take longer to sell a more expensive car...also the respray might cause the car to look like it had some form of damage and had to be repainted if a good job is not done in the paint shop...its better to leave it as is it i believe
 
If you get it done now you can enjoy it looking mint while you own it.. but will be chipped again when you go to sell.

If you get it done before you sell then you wont make the extra £600-£700 more back.

Could de-flimper it for the same money and would make it sell quicker then if it had been resprayed :P

What would you spend the £600-£700 on then instead?
 
nothing worse than a two tone metallic car, if they can guarantee to match the colour , just a case of cost against like others say buyers like to think theyre getting a bargain to cover any minor jobs, my front spoiler is fairly badly chipped on close inspection, its 300 to reopaint so i will probably wait till i sell i think, :thumbsup:
 
I wouldnt bother. Knock £500 off the price if they bring it up and its a win-win.

Its not a deal breaker by any means except perhaps to the perfectionist and you have to ask yourself, are those the sorts of people who will be interested in my car?

Depends how bad it looks. My old Z3MR had badly peeling lacquer on the front bumper from a previous respray which looked rubbish, so I had it resprayed just before I sold it. That was £250 so not as much of a big outlay. Unless it looks really bad, i.e. enough to deter the average buyer, I'd just factor it into the sale price if necessary. Another consideration is that, regardless of colour match, new paint next to old paint can look a bit odd.

If you fancy faffing around for a day then stone chips can be filled in pretty well with cocktail stick and matching paint. I did them on the Z3 bonnet and I was pretty pleased with the end result.

I got quoted £400 for just the front bumper - if it's bonnet as well you are probably right/not far off...

Have you tried getting it detailed or having a go with a machine polisher? Or clay bar I have only used it on one wing AMZING stuff.
