Front end respray or not?

from a vehicle refinishers point of view, there is no excuse EVER, for peeling lacquer, if it is coming away from the substrate, its an adhesion problem caused by in 95 % of cases by Bad prep, ie not keying the surface enough, and there is very very little a detailer can do to improve it. nxt stop, the bodyshop to correct the previous muppet's shoddy work, harsh, but true. also very annoying as any subsequent remedial work cant be done until all the lacquer has been removed. moral... only go to a respected approved bodyshop. good luck :x

I had the front spoiler resprayed on #69 and numerous small wear and tear items and car park dings removed for £450 ish all in

Stone chips aren't too bad, it's the egg marks that give me sleepless nights

Have you tried getting it detailed or having a go with a machine polisher? Or clay bar I have only used it on one wing AMZING stuff.

Yeah had it detailed last year and the he said it was beyond his help

I got mine done at a local garage I always use for £200.... looked spotless. Had it taken off, rubbed down and resprayed.

They always do a great job, but I do know the owner so got a little bit of discount think it should have been £260-300

You can't help it the cars are 8 years old and very susceptible to front end damage as they are so low.

It's a shame if it can't be improved with detailing - if you're going to sell then I wouldn't bother - just allow for this to be done in the selling price - it's always a risk with respraying in case it turns out slightly out and as said before a buyer will wonder if there has been accident damage . I'm a bit paranoid about keeping the original paintwork so I suppose I'm very biased with my opinion.

Im suprised a detailer said that....

Egg usually only damages the clearcoat, and stonechips acan be greatly reduced with a decent detailer on the job.

It never eradicates them of course, but when cut back and the chips burnished it makes them so less noticable.

Price around £300.

I would have though a decent bodyshop would charge £700+ to do bumper, bonnet both wings and match into the doors.I happen to know a guy who works here, and he is a bmw fanatic.... Fantastic with paint too..

Got to agree here your looking at paint correction , not detailing thats what my M is in for next week full correction, those egg marks should disappear :?

I can't imagine a front end respray would be £600-700. Maybe £400-500, £600 absolute max.

£400 from my local BMW dealer - perfect match even on a 10 year old car.

Yeah and that's cheaper than most of my mates body shops. Mine has gravel rash so I'm going to get it sorted over the winter :-).

@AlanJ Is that on all colours? I always thought its harder to colour match metallic colours....

Thats cheap,i would snap their hand off at that Tony.

Mines in for a tailgate under warranty.. I have a F30 M sport as a courtesy car,not a bad thing!

I hate this thread....giving me a reason to spend more money! :headbang:

But should I keep her original that is the question. Guy who detailed my Z said all the paint was original....apart from front bumper that is obviously commonly stone chiped and damaged easily! :P

having the front bumper done on my F11 5 series today and that is £436.00 inc VAT at a dealers.

Hope that helps. Very little prep work though.

Makes me very happy that I do all my own spraying these days having practised on my daughter's 1 series back and front M sport bumpers :)

£50 to do a bumper if you use primer, base coat and lacquer. An hour of prep on a good bumper, an hour spraying (with breaks for drying) and an hour+ of wet sanding and polishing and jobs done.
