Hello. Picked up my 07 Z4M Roadster yesterday, in beautiful Interlagos Blue.

I've driven a Honda S2000 for the last few years but recently decided to change as I was beginning to find it uncomfortable (particularly the seating position) on long motorway journeys and tiring in stop start London traffic, which form the bulk of my (admittedly low) annual mileage.

As such I've been looking to get an M3 convertible with the SMG transmission, for a bit more comfort, but for the reasons above I didn't consider the Z4M as I'd read that it had a harsh ride and stiff clutch.

Anyway, went to view an M3 at the weekend, but by the time I'd arrived it had sold. However, before I left disappointed, the beautiful blue Z4M caught my eye so I decided as I was there I should take a look. It seemed considerably more comfortable than the S2000 and taking it out for a spin the performance was phenominal! And as for the harsh ride and stiff clutch, maybe in comparison to a normal car but felt positively luxurious in comparison to the S2, I can't believe the difference.

So against my better judgement, without doing any serious research I immediately negotiated a good price, put my deposit down and collected it yesterday. And I'm loving it!

Next task is to review this forum and find out about the common problems and what I should've looked out for before buying the car...

Sometimes the heart just rules the head...

Welcome and great purchase

sounds similar to when I bought mine... went to the dealer to have 'a look at any z4' etc... saw it, drove it, bought it :D

Best colour - congratulations :D .... but then I am a it biased :P

Saw that one advertised - looks great !

Were you on the S2K site ?? I've had two S2K's and loved them - think you may have had a bad one if you didn't like the gearbox and clutch though .... I always found the S2K really soft and easy to drive and wanted something a little more challenging

Don't get me wrong, I didn't have a problem with the clutch other than I found it tiring in London traffic, it's just feels so much easier in the Z4M which I found surprising considering it was one of the few criticisms in the reviews I read.

Never any problem with the gearbox, all in all I loved the car and was sad to see it go, just fancied a change and something with a bit more comfort, primarily the seating position gave me back problems.

Admittedly the Z4M wasn't really on my radar (M3/R32/SLK etc) as it seemed too similar to the S but now I've got it it seems to make so much sense! I just hope the back holds out.... (it feels loads more comfortable).

That's the Hounslow one isn't it? If so, I'm glad it's gone as that was far too cheap and was bugging me every time I looked at it! You have yourself a performance car bargain :driving:

Fair enough :) There is loads more space on the inside of the Z4M with the roof up compared to an S2000. Much as I loved both of mine they did feel fairly tight inside !

They do drive like an S2000 but in a much more laid back way. Power everywhere apart from really, really low revs in 2nd gear. I too worried about the gearbox and clutch after seeing a review by Jason Plato but have found both much lighter than I expected. The only thing to master is the timing of changes - it doesn't like to be rushed and requires a firm hand .... something I think I have now mastered - 2 months it took but now I am sorted :)

The ride is, IMO at least at hard as the S2000 but the seats are firm but more forgiving. The whole car has more room in it - which mean not being pinned in you can relax a bit more. This coupled with complete adjustment of steering wheel height and reach, seat height + the usual other adjustments makes for a rather nice car :D

Excellent color....

You will find the ///M Roadster not only a comfortable daily driver but an outstanding car for long trips.... :driving:

Looks luuurvely!! :)

Im always thinking i wish the gearchange and clutch were a bit more like my old s2000. It takes a real positive move and a well timed change to get the best out of the Z, something which i found took little to no concentration in my old s2k. The Z4 is much more relaxed in a day to day way though, and a lot more meaty feeling in ALL terms.

Glad your happy with it

Welcome

I had 5 great years in an S2000 and loved it.

The M is a great car, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Good choice

Did similar at the wekeend. Went off with £4k in my pocket to get a diesel A-class, stopped in at the BMW dealership cos I've always wanted to try a Z4 and walked out though proud owner of a Z4 coupe! (Walked not drove, had to get the road tax sorted :-( )

I hope you negotiated yourself a healthy discount, as all the current talk is about how dealerships cannot shift MRs for love nor money!
