For those of you with narrow garages-

My garage is pretty small the Z just about fits in but I always put it in the garage just feel happier knowing its locked away. Very greatfull for it in the winter as well when I don't need to defrost the car.

Is it your "forever" house Andy or a stepping stone ?
Forever :)
The stress alone is enough to finish you off!

Yeah , not something i'm looking forward to apart from signifying another life chapter
. Been in family home 17 years after moving for the children to get in a certain school but we all love living here so no great urge to leave just now
Unless for a one way ferry ticket

Dont understand why people keep their second most expensive purchase outside, and fill a garage with junk.

I think we paid about a grand a square meter for our house ten years ago.
a garage is 2.5 x 6

is it really worth fifteen grand to keep a waterproof thing dry?

narrow guage has been the norm since around 1856 when the railway board did away with brunel's superior broad gauge, obviously garage builders followed the same directive , now look at the mess we're in !!! :tumbleweed:

I have a small garage. I don't use it for the Z4, but my other goes in. I park outside the garage with the handbrake off and push it in. I am too big a lump to squeeze out of it when it's in.

Because you can park your car outside... you can't pile your junk in the street, I would imagine.

I ended up converting my integral garage to a small study and seperate store for secure storage of bikes, freezers and other household stuff. Ended up getting far more usage of this area. There are seven houses in our Close and only one person puts his car in a garage at night.

Even of im going back out in it the same day

Park as far to the left as possible, and screw a bit of carpet to the wall where your door opens so you dont worry ab aboutoit knocking the door

Can you get your feet out ok?

Yes fine

there is probably about a foot maybe 1 and 1/2 between the car and wall

You need a garage with a loft then you can put all your junk up there

Another reason why many insurance charge more for cars garaged. Damage caused by things dropping on them and car scratched at the side by people being careless. :?

You can't claim off your car insurance for accidental damage like that can you? I was always led to believe garaged cars are more expensive to insure because the car is hidden from view which makes it easier for scrotes to do their work away from view.

Never use the garage. All 3 cars stay out on the drive/street. Garage is too full of other stuff, plus it's another one that is really narrow. I think cars in the 70's were just much narrower.

+1 on this. My garage is way too narrow. Our 2 cars live on the drive.

it's probably worth it if you don't like chavs keying your car.

I built my garage with my dad in 2008(only as on a impulse buy I brought a escort cosworth, which no one would insure unless it was garaged),the street adj ours is a barrat style estate. No one uses their garages and when ever you drive by them cars are either on the drive or on the road, garages are mainly used to store crap/garden equipment etc.
Mines full of crap but the zed just gets in :)
must have built it ok as its not fallen down yet

trust me from the side its like the leaning tower of pisa
cost me approx. £4000 and we did all the work ourselves so its certainly not perfect.the proudest thing I think is the garage door which I won off ebay for £200
including the electric opener,in my opinion its one of the best things I did and although it probably doesn't add much value to the property it serves its purpose as we couldn't fit the
tumble drier and the freezer in the kitchen :P

I'm told that your insurance is higher if you park on the drive, its cheaper to park on the road. The reason being that if they want your car they just have to break into the house and nick the keys...much easier than breaking into a car these days :|
