For Sale: 2008 (08) Z4MR - Sold

I also put my old E85 on PH over 2 weeks but did not receive a single call, then I used classified ad. on eBay. First viewer bought it. Gook luck.

I find it astonishing that no one has bought this fantastic £45K car for £21K just over two years later. It's also quite depressing :(

It's now on Autotrader. Ironically however the one person I am 'negotiating' (discussing price but he has not come to view yet, as 200 miles away) with at present has come via the Pistonheads advert!

I had one guy pretty much the first week I advertised it who decided on a Cayman instead.

Then another a couple of weeks ago, but didn't come to view due to a possible risk of pending redundancy.

I've had a lot of P/X offers, none of which have been suitable.

That said, I have narrowed the replacement car down to a handful of models which have the requisite boot space for 2 dogs and a baby. Octavia vRS, Saab 9-5 Aero, Legacy 3.0R, 545i (estates).

BMW Leicester offered 21k as a starting point against a 550i touring they have but I don't really want to spend extra. I would rather buy one of the above cars which are 5k-10k and put the remaining cash back into my mortgage.

I did come close to taking a guy up on a swap for a 335d touring but the boot on 3er tourings isn't quite big enough. :(

I'm also talking to my employerr about chopping my company car in early (the 1 series) but that is looking like an expensive option. Funny, I nearly chose an Octavia 2.0T vRS estate (because I prefer the styling over the hatch) back in late 2007 when I chose my car but decided on the 118d because of lower taxation. If I had gone with the Skoda that would have been perfect!

2dogs, you should buy a roadster, if God had intended the Z4 to have a roof he would have put it into Bangle's mind from the start! Besides, you get to listen to that exhaust note first hand when the roof's down . :)

But why have the milk when you can have the cream :poke:

I wanted a coupe originally but the roadsters represented much better value for money, plus you have the option of dropping the roof. So, I bought this one.

The way I looked at it is that you are paying the same £ for an 18 month older car comparing coupe prices to roadsters.

Or the other way to look at it is having an 08 plate car for considerably less £; there is one 08 coupe for sale at present and I think it is the other side of 25k...so I wouldn't do this :headbang: as bear in mind a two year old coupe will unlikely be available at £21k-22k unless it has huge mileage.

At least the BMWs represent great value (either hard or soft top versions) compared to the SLK AMG and Porsche Boxster S/Cayman S. The Z4M is the sensible value for money choice. It really is the bargain sports car IMHO.

Yep, great value for money if anyone is looking to buy a serious performance car. I toyed with buying a Boxster S earlier in the year but in the end couldn't bring myself to spend £5K on top of my car for something the same age!

My present plan is not to spend too much on my next car so I can work part-time and not have to pay back a loan. At present a new MX5 is my choice, I run a Mk 2 at present as a daily workhorse and they are fantastic cars to drive. Will miss that performance though when I finally sell :) Still, just had Inspection 1 done, two new tyres fitted so nothing to spend on it for another two years, you see, I'm talking myself into keeping it for a while longer

massive price drop to stimulate a sale! now 20k
I can't believe this hasn't gone yet :o

Do you live in some remote island off the coast of Scotland or something :(

John,

I think your M is fantastic and is so much car for the money you are advertising it for IMO. If I was looking for an MR I wouldn't have any hesitation in buying yours but the market unfortunately dictates value rather than the seller no matter how unfair that can feel sometimes. I do think trying to get even £20k from a private sale for an M roadster is pushing it given where the market seems to be with these. Have a look at the AUC site. There are some really nice roadsters on there for less money with the peace of mind of buying from a dealer. See the link below as an example

http://www.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/auc/car_details/0,,1260_159980106__,00.html?currentCh=WBSBT92050LD39445

I went through a similar experience when I sold my 3 litre a few months back. I got no calls at all until the price started with an 8 (it was a 91k 04 with FBMWSH and a good spec in excellent condition). As soon as it came up at 8,995 the calls started to flood in.

I know its your call but the average price of Z4MR's on the AUC today is £22.2k and I reckon you need to be circa £4k below that. At £18,495 you've got a good shout.

Mind you I dearly hope you prove me wrong and announce you've sold it for £20k ! Best of luck with the sale

That example is two years older though...and mine is in BMW warranty for 9 months so you get the same peace of mind, in fact the original warranty is more comprehensive than the AUC warranty.

An 08 though AUC would be 24-25k I reckon.

The only advantage a dealer can offer is a PCP scheme. Anyone reasonably credit worthy can get a loan from their bank at better rates than BMW

We buy any car offered 19500 for it already and BMW 21500 in p/x for the 550i I have a deposit on. I just want the car to go to a private buyer if possible rather than BMW make profit on the deal twice, as a 1500 discount on the 550i is already agreed if I have no p/x, so I'm no worse off selling at 20000.

The problem you have is that the difference in price between an 06 and an 08, relative to their original starting values, is negligible.

Not sure it's that easy to get unsecured loans above £15k any more although you could always arrange your own competitive finance so agree that there are alternatives for private sale.

Think it was a little overpriced before, but at £20k it should go quickly, although I'd probably just trade it or sell it trade for the sake of a few quid.

Absolutely agree (I have a few loans from different banks. , all rates are lower than BMW).

F60 is such new car, the discount is so low atm, and BMW give no complimentary specifications upgrade. At the time when I ordered my E89, there was no targeted date for the launch of its M Sport model. With these reasons, I could not wait for it. I also like the new 5-series M Sport.

I was fortunate to purchase the car at a rock bottom price in the winter, so all things considered I didn't lose out much at all. It went for 19800.

It cost me two tyres and about a grand for 7 months of fun.

I think if I had held out I could have broken even but there was also the risk I would not sell it until March / April next year, and it would be out of warranty and due an Inspection 1 then too.

I hope the buyer enjoys it as much as I did!
