But I prefer to do other things with my off time then spend several hours cutting holes in my dash and installing sat nav's when I can just go out, buy one and use the suckers on my windshield :idunno: - different strokes. My Z isn't my daily driver, it's just a toy so going through all that trouble isn't worth it to me. I'd rather be driving it or detailing it. It stays locked in my garage and I don't carry passengers so the wires are no bother to me at all and possible theft is significantly decreased. I think the installed ones look fantastic, but the alternative is just fine for me![]()

Total cost was £430-ish, of which £300 was the dvd computer. The cable loom from BMW was surprisingly only £50, the new radio was $10 (yes, 10 dollars from ebay ...) and the screen was £70.
The whole job of cabling and dismantling the car was about 2 hours, the cutting of the hole in the dash was 4 hours as there was only a tolerance of 1 mm around the screen.

Excuse me: enfield is a very smart man...he has FOUR marbles - twice that of the average man! (btw, I know which marbles you're referring to...bad man :telloff: )pvr said:Obviously not. You are just a "thing" with 2 marbles![]()
pvr said:When you remove the airvent, there are two plastic brackets with holes in them. The screen has two plastic brackets as well. They fit over eachother and that is what fits at the front.
At the rear, there is a plastic strip that hides 3 screws which screws the back of the monitor in place.

My screen came from Germany.

no fit state said:RustyZ4 said:I take it you have seen a car you like without it??
For me personally i find it really usefull, not only is it sat nave, it also displays computer trips, miles etc, when I get my ipod fitted it will show tracks etc, mine also has TV (now that is a waste of time!!) but was already fitted.
If you dont need it, but once a year, you will easily do without it,, and just use a portable one maybe.
Yes, this one http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/302967.htm Seems to be quite high spec apart from no Sat Nav
I like the idea of the Sat Nav showing up the ipod info, as that's all I use now when out in a car.
What to do, what to do???

It really is not that hard to do, and is not very expensive either. Makes the car a lot easier to sell as well. I sold my Z4 3.0 in 6 hours after advertising on Pistonheads and had a total of 20 replies about it.
Toys sell ...
pvr" ....and the satnav was so much nicer then a TomTom. Much bigger said:Are you serious???The BMW nav is better than the TomTom? Not in a million years...sure I LOVE the integration into the car but it is such an archaeic system it is scary for a system that costs over 10x what a TomTom does. Rudimentary map graphics almost on par with Commodore 64, poor POI implementation (horrid search function, poorly categorised, can't select more than one, no audible alerts, no speed cameras unless you hack it) and many other functions that the current portable Navs have (advanced lane visualisation, 3d maps etc) that we can only dream of in ours.
Don't get me wrong, I like having it integrated in the car, but for what you pay we sure get a pretty substandard navigation device.
The reality is the car manufacturers will never be able to keep up with the rapidly evolving portable devices. By the time the 5-8 year development cycle of the car is completed the technology they picked is already obsolete.
What they should do is partner with eg TomTom and integrate a highend device in the BMW. The ongoing upgradability will be by simply uploading the new firmware as TomTom releases it for all their devices.
