Fog Light Refurb Q?

So it was such a lovey day I decided to have the front bumper off and do a few jobs, ont e of which was have the fog lights off and give them a clean.

One of them looked pretty ropey from the outside and didn’t work, the other one wasn’t too bad.

So with bumper off I removed both, the drivers side was ok and after sumerging in warm soapy water and agitating the inside with a bottle brush came up like new.

The passenger side one was toast sadly, completely corroded and all powdery. So I left it in warm water for half an hour and managed to split it open, the reflector is shot but the lens is fine. To anyone that has refurbed their fog lights, what have you used to re-seal it when putting back together??

The original black rubber seal was extremely brittle and just broke away, once I have sourced a replacement reflector I will need to seal it up with the lens.

Any pointers on this??

Cheers

I’d just use a decent all weather sealant/adhesive by the likes of Sikaflex.

I’d also drill a few pilot holes on the underside of the clear lense

Thanks bud, I have some Tiger Seal which should do it I reckon??

Saw about the holes and will definitely do this although having had to work so damn hard to split them it’s beyond me how water even gets in there?!?

I've read a few different posts regarding this, and there is a small "breathe" hole situated at the top of the fog light.
I am not sure what function this performs (because it certainly isn't helping the condensation out) but I have seen the some people silicone this hole, rather than drill more holes at the bottom, and have reported that they no longer get the condensation.
I have had my bumper off too, and my foggys were in a real bad state. I've bitten the bullet and bought two new ones, and when they arrive I don't know whether I want to drill holes in the bottom so I may just go for the silicone route.

Will disconnecting the fog lights cause any dash lights to come on?
The car I'm getting (E86) has a little condensation in the fog lights so I'm thinking of either removing them or disconnecting the light connection and covering them so the car doesn't fail an MOT.
Do the BMW blanking plates fit over the fog lights or in place of the fog lights?
Thank you
