Just wondering if there are any before and afters or similar anyone who is considering this mod would like?

Mark,

I'm going to do this soon but as a mechanical incompetent I wouldn't mind hearing of any problems and any useful pics.

Cheers,

Andy

Hardest bit is getting the old box out, one of the rubber clips is tricky, you have to twist and pull or something.

Cheers for the tips guys

I was thinking more about noise tests? Perhaps vids with the phone or GoPro? Got a DB Tester here too?

Ok too late its done :)

It took me 20mins tops. The rubber 'mounts' holding the base of the oem box, not a problem. you just pull the old box off them. You have to remove one of the mounts to fit the brace for the GruppeM. Reach underneath and push up, you'll find half of the pin pushes up which then allows you to remove the whole thing.

Just going to take it for a drive :driving:

Slightly off topic, but as i'm thinking about some modifications (induction/back boxes) where do you guys get insurance?

Checked the online aggregators today (confused etc) and the best quote was around £740 quid - which is more than a 50% increase!

have to say i was amazed by reis recently.... 1070 quid with every single nut and bolt disclosed, and can go up in power with no hike in premium, this includes 4 track days a year also...... Very pleased with them.... OP recommended them to me and im very pleased with their service..... This for a blown z4m was excellent imo.....

I bought a black coupe from JDM here on the forum and he had made various modifications. Fortunately i used the same insurance company he did (admiral) - i thought it was simplest to phone admiral up and tell them i was buying a car from someone who was already insured by them, with modifications from standard, so could they transfer the listed mods for that car (and that car) onto my policy.

you'd think this was simple, but i did have to almost lose my temper with the lady on the line in order for her to do this!

anyway, in terms of cost i cannot recommend admiral multi-car higher, they insured me and my partner on an M3, a Renault Clio and a VW Golf for less than 2/3 the cost of Kwik Fit's renewal on just an M3.

JDM said they added £70 to his premium for the mods he'd made (quad exhuast, altered wheels and rear diffuser) and i phoned the other day as i'm intending to fit the AFE intake to my car shortly and told them of this modification, she couldn't find it listed so made a note on the policy.

34 year old male, no convictions etc, 12 years NCB, mid risk area, c£350 pa on a 3.0si with the above modifications. I think that's reasonable.

Just called REIS to let them know about my induction kit and... my other pending mod :P No increase in premium, not even a blink of the eye. They really are a pleasure to deal with

Got so caught up in the new arrival I forgot to report back:

SOUNDS AWESOME!! At first I was a bit worried as I thought I felt a noticeable flat spot around the middle of the rev range. But it sorted itself out after a few miles

What surprised me was the noise. Sure I've fitted induction before on cars and they all seem to have this deep growl beneath the bonnet. and yeah you get that with this, but when the revs get up it screams! Love it

Just worried its going to all get a bit too noisy when I fit the latest arrivals :) Although I've always loved noisy cars, just been enjoying the civilised way this cars is but I'd just get bored of that in time anyway :D

Are REIS more expensive than 'normal' firms? I notice they include track days, can someone shed a bit more light on how this works?

reis were the only people that would even cover my car..... Competition car insurance said NO!! as did all the other firms, adrian flux said 5k a year!! none of them have track day cover included as well!!

What do you get under the track day cover?

full comprehesive cover if i crash or someone crashes into me.... excess on track is 500 bags however, but still worth while considering 70% of people dont have track insurance......
